Tutorial - How to Bury Thread Ends
Sep 28th, 2006
My sewing machine has an auto-thread cutter which pulls my thread ends to the back of the quilt and trims them to 3/4 inch long. I developed the following method to bury the thread ends inside the layers of the quilt.
I used a super long needle threader which is not necessary, it’s just what I had. An ordinary needle threader would work the same way. The key to these steps is inserting your needle before trying to thread it.

do the ends ever work their way back out (with use, laundering etc.)?
I haven’t had any come back out. There’s a little knot that is formed right where the fabric meets the thread ends. You can create this with your sewing machine or by hand. Once you pull under the threads through to the inside that knot sort of pops under the fabric. This keeps it in place. I’m now using a self-threading needle by Clover instead of the needle threader. Much faster!
