Welcome to Week 32 of the One Yard Wonders Sew Along!
Week 32 – Project 70
Summer Fun Play Top – designed by Maggie Bunch page 196

Carrie selected Keiki Oops A Daisy Kaleidoscope Cream.
Materials Needed:
pattern on sheet #2
Three 1/2″ buttons

Carrie’s Tips and Thoughts
- Great instructions. Helpful diagram. Fun top to make.
- Carrie used two fabrics after discovering the entire top was lined. Fabric #2 is Keiki Oops A Daisy Gingham Yellow.
- After stitching the armholes, neckline and back opening Carrie added a 1 1/2″ strip of fusible interfacing to the back opening on the wrong side of the lining fabric to make the area more stable for the closures.
- Snaps and decorative covered buttons were selected making the top reversible. She used size 36 buttons.
- In step 3, Stitch the sides, the diagram provided the perfect visual on where to stitch. After turning, careful pressing was important. Snipping the curves and a bone folder were helpful in creating a nice neckline and armholes.
- The Peplum is darling. Carrie used two rows of basting stitch between the gather marks to bring the fabric together. It seemed like a lot to gather but the finished product is perfect.

Carrie is looking forward to seeing the top on her niece!
Week 32 – Project 71
“Twist & Shout” Twirl Skirt – designed by Maggie Bunch page 199

Janis chose two fabrics, Cary Phillips Floral Folio Medium Stripe Dark Violet and Floral Folio Tonal Dark Violet.
Materials Needed:
1 yard of 1/2″ elastic
1 yard of 1/8″ piping (prepackaged or make your own)
sewing machine zipper foot
Bias strip (for binding) 2” x 62” *
Bias strip (for piping) 1” x 32” *
*The bias strips will be cut from the remaining middle section of fabric. You will need to piece the strips together in Step 3 to achieve the necessary finished lengths.

Janis’ Tips and Thoughts
- The pattern was easy to follow.
- Janis used two fabrics. The yoke fabric is 30″ by 6″. The skirt used almost a full yard of the stripe for the skirt front/back and bias hem.
- The lime green piping between the yoke and the skirt is from Janis’ stash. The contrast in color gives the piping a nice punch of color.

Janis’ Niece was thrilled with the skirt but wanted MORE pink. Luckily Mom had the perfect sweater to top off the fabulous outfit.

What a cute skirt! I like the bright piping in between.
Aww, the skirt is adorable!!! I wonder, though, what’s the point in the bias tape hem? Can’t you just hem the skirt like a normal one? I’ve been thinking of making this for my daughter, it’s so cute!
I’m interested to know if the top is cropped, it looks so short!
The bias hem adds a nice touch if you use a stripe as the bias tape is at an angle. It doesn’t show as much with this skirt as it does in the book. Also if you wanted to use a contrasting bias tape it would look nice. The skirt would be fine with a regular hem. It is a quick project.
ok, adorable doesn’t even begin to describe how cute that little play top is! and that skirt is pretty awesome too =)
oh, the projects turned out wonderful ` love the little blouse with those covered buttons and the little girl looks so cute in her new twirly skirt!
Oh so cute! Once again, fabulous choice of fabrics. Thanks for the continuing inspiration.
Adorable!!!!
Oh oh oh! The butterflies and gingham are the perfect combo–such a cute style and so nicely executed! And the pink skirt is so much fun – I love that she wanted More Pink!!
The twist & shout skirt would thrill my little girl to death. She bases her choice of skirt on the twirl factor before anything else…fit, color, style…who cares? It’s got to twirl!
Wow, that little play shirt is just beautiful! Love the buttons — I’m going to try some of those one of these days. And the twirl skirt — how fun! What a cute little model!
These turned out so cute! I love the gathered detail on both projects.
The projects are great! I think I might like the inside of the top the best.
And more pink??? Anyone who looks that cute can definitely have more pink!
I love how these came out. I wish someone would give me a grandchild so I can have someone to make cute clothes for;)
Debbie
That fun play top is especially cute. The twirly-skirted model is even cuter.
I gave my daughter this book for christmas thinking it was a good beginner book for her. But after seeing all the stuff you have been doing i think i need to make a trip to her house and borrow it for a while. That top is just to cute and reverseable!
More fantastic results – so adorable! I’m wondering whether the top and skirt would work together in the same fabrics?
Loved the fabrics selected for the summer fun play top! It looks like a great project to make for a little girl.
So glad I got the book. Will be in SC until the 30th, then home to California and my sewing room!
Just made the skirt this weekend. I skipped the piping and used a contrast for the yolk and the hem.
Both projects are really cute!
Simply adorable. What more can I say.
Wow, great job ladies, they both turned out beautifully!
Cute top!
