Week 4 – Project 7
Ruffled Cafe Curtain – Designed by Patricia Hoskins – page 36

Alicia will be sewing the Ruffled Cafe Curtain for her guest room. Her fabric choice is Alexander Henry’s June Bug June Blooms in Blue and for the ruffle June Bug June Dot in Black/White.
Please note – The pattern is designed to fit the bottom half of a window up to 60″ high x 30″ wide.
Publisher’s correction – Page 36 in Measure, Mark, and Cut – The last sentence of the second paragraph should read “If using 44/45″ fabric, the finished cut dimensions will be 22″ wide x 28″ tall.”
Week 4 – Project 8
Smocked Pillow in the Round – Designed by Welmoed Sisson – page 38

Kathy chose for the pillow Liz Scott’s Sugar Pop Floral Andrea Pink and for the covered button Dots Dot Dot Dot in Eggplant.
Highlights of Materials Needed:
- One Yard of Pellon Tru-Grid (available 44/45″, a 1″ graph for scaling up, duplicating or altering patterns). Kathy used McCalls Perfect Pattern Paper which she had on hand – it worked fine as a substitute.
- One 14″ square pillow that will be turned into a round pillow.
- Two 1 1/2 (size #60) cloth-covered shank buttons.
- Tufting needle

Love the smocked pillow. I have very old McCalls patterns from my mom that are smocked pillows–dated 1961. Great fabrics for the cafe curtain.
I love the old patterns for home stuff, a lot of them survived when the clothes patterns didn’t (used too many time perhaps?)
Like the cafe curtain. Never tried smocking, though I’ve always admired it.
Cafe Curtain…that is a great idea. I really should make a few of those.
I just thought of something, we have a bathroom window that has hot summer sun blasting it but I like to keep the sunlight a cafe curtain over the bath would be perfect, that way my daughter can still have a bath without being cooked…brilliant. I must make one.
I’m really interested to see how the smocking turns out. Can’t wait!
lovely fabrics! excited to see the finished products!
I really love that pillow, so I’m excited to watch you make it! I have the book but I haven’t gotten around to either of these projects yet. I’m curious about the curtain, too – will you just stick it halfway down the window and leave the top empty?
Love both of these patterns!
really liking that pillow and the fabric you’ve chosen to make it! looking forward to seeing the finished project! loving this idea of working through a book, one project at a time!
I really love that you are working your way through this book… its reminding me of all the amazing projects in there!
Love the fabric to be used for the pillow!
I remember smocking a pillow years ago in a girls’ club. What fun to see something similar again.
I have this book and am truly amazed at what can be done with a yard of fabric. I love the varied projects and the inspiration it has given me.
I look forward to getting all of your fun information and fabrics! Keep ‘em coming!
These two projects will be gorgeous with the fabrics you’ve chosen!
One yard wonders is amazing, the fabric for the cafe curtains is fantastic.
As well as the fabric for the pillow, you have an eye for picking the right fabric, I struggle with this.
I think, we a little engineering to get it to hang, I could use the ruffled curtain pattern for my craft room makeover! My sewing area is in our basement. It’s kind of gloomy right now, but if I replace the janky curtain the former owner stapled up — it would be a real improvement!
OK…I got to get this book!!!! Some cute stuff!
Really like the cafe curtain idea – my mother needs one for her bath window.
Love the dot dot dot fabric! Looking forward to seeing the final product.
Can’t wait to see the finished projects!
I am really enjoying following along in this book. I have the book and love seeing your hints.
That smocked cushion looks gorgeous – can’t wait to see your finished version.
Not sure where I would use cafe curtains in this house. Hmmmmmmm. I am STILL waiting for the book to arrive at the library. :S
My daughter is the one who does all the smocking in the family, she just love it…
I LOVE that pillow!
Looking forward to see the final results, specially the pillow project!
Fresh curtains – fabulous idea for the New Year!
This project-a-long makes me want to dig out the old sewing machine and fire up for another run!
Can’t wait to see how both of these projects turn out!
Love the tufted pillow- I’ve been wanting to try that one!
Every time I see anything with smocking, I think of my mom. She loved the craftsmanship of smocking, and I think it really pleased her when her smocking was crisp–the same way she loved to see her plaids line up. The smocking she loved best was the kind we used to see on dresses for little girls, “Sunday best” type of dresses. Thanks for bringing back some sweet memories.
Very great visual appeal on this website , I’d rate it 10 10.
