One Yard Wonders Sew Along 2011

Announcing the first ever Pink Chalk Sew Along! Carrie is the newest member of the Pink Chalk Fabrics Team. She came on board and inspired us all with her idea to coordinate a Sew Along for one of our all time favorite books One Yard Wonders by Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins.

Here’s the low down:

We will be making every project in the book from beginning to end. Yes, all 101 One Yard Wonders!

Each Monday we’ll post the projects and the fabric selected by the Pink Chalk Team. On Friday we’ll share our completed works. The schedule is 2 projects per week so we can reach our goal of completing all 101 projects by the end of 2011. We’ll work in the book in order. Yes, just like Julie and Julia.

We’ll share pictures, progress, tips and tribulations as we go. We would love to see and hear from you too, here’s how:

Flickr: join the group and add your project photos One Yard Wonders Sew Along 2011 Flickr Group

Pink Chalk Studio Blog: add a Link to your Project on the weekly Friday blog post (we’ll continue to update the list as the Sew Along progresses, add your link to the appropriate project week at any point along the way)

Facebook: share your project photos and comments on the Pink Chalk Fabrics Facebook page (didn’t know we had a Facebook page? it’s new and we’re having quite a good time with it!)

I’ll be posting Week 1′s fabrics and projects in the next post. Look for completed Week 1 project pictures on Friday. I need to figure out some sort of prize thing for sewing along with us. Stay tuned for that.

I’m very excited, what do you guys think?

I’m working on the button thing too!

I’m really excited about this! I just got that book for Christmas, and since I’m new to sewing it will be nice to have guidance and tips from the blog as I go!

I’m starting in the middle, though – I bought fabric to make the Folklore Bag and a dress for my daughter. :) I’m sure I’ll make it around to the same project that you guys do eventually, though!

How AWESOME! The timing is so perfect I can’t believe it! I just got this book for Christmas and have been reading all of the patterns and deciding which I would make first!! I won’t have time to do all of them like you all are but your posts will be an excellent resource for me if I run into any trouble as I get started on my own project from the book. So excited!

I have been wanting to buy this book for awhile now and this is just the kick start I needed. I love that you are doing it in order so I can look ahead and find/order fabric in time to complete the projects with you! :-)

I would love to join in but I don’t have the book, I may have to join in the fun a little later on after I have got the book. I will still enjoy seeing what different things you are doing until then.

This will be fun! And I’ll get some things done that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m sure I won’t be doing all the projects but I’ll play along once in a while!

What a great idea! 2 project a week though, ambitious. I bought the book last year, but have never actually made anything out of it. I’m going to enjoy following along and hopefully making some of the things sometimes. The lined bookcase sounds like a good start…hmm…

What a fun idea. This was the first sewing book I bought in years and I have definitely enjoyed using it. I’ve found that the sizing on the toddler clothing (the first items I made) runs really large. I’ll be curious to know what others find.

How fun! I received this book for my birthday and have been itching to delve into it… My schedule won’t allow me to do every project, but I look forward to joining in on some of them!

This sounds like really exciting! I wish I had the time to play along and do two a week! I will be looking what you all create and maybe chip in once or twice when I have a minute.. would that be ok? A great venture and very exciting. Looking forward to seeing it unfold!

Sounds fun, but what if we don’t have pets for the pet projects and/or just don’t like the clothing patterns? I think I’ll just enjoy other peoples’ projects those weeks :)

Just jump in when there is something that works for you. I don’t have any pets but I thought my neighbor dog might like some new accessories.

I’ve been wanting to do this very thing, and I have a pattern in the book, too! I’ll be glad when you get to mine and find out for sure if my instructions are written well for sewists. I’ve worried about that from the beginning. Looks like I’m late to the party, as usual these days. Maybe I can catch up or just jump in. — Michele

Oh my gosh!!!! I can’t believe I found your blog and discovered what you’re doing! One of my New Year’s resolutions this year was to use up fabric in my stash by making 50 projects out of the One-Yard Wonders book and giving them to the favorite people in my life! How cool is it that I can now follow you guys for inspiration and motivation. What fun! Thank you!!
