I remember from my French classes so many years ago that Marcel Proust wrote a famous essay about how the senses of smell and taste evoked strong memories that take you back to very specific experiences from your childhood. I think that color, especially color/pattern combinations, evoke similar memories. The red/turqoise combo reminds me of kitchens from the 50′s. I also notice that I am sometimes drawn to colors outside my comfort zone when they are combined in just the right way with patterns and other colors that bring out pleasant, or even daring memories. It is one of the things I love about the current fabric designers. They really do open up worlds to be sampled and consumed in my own creativity. It is a great place in time for those that create through fabric.

I love the aqua and red combination of Bliss. It reminds me of my childhood. I had an old Cat in the Hat (yep 70′s) poster that was red with agua background. I’d stare at the poster then look at a white wall to see the Cat on the Wall. Ummm too much time on my hands perhaps?
