I first discovered Kathy York’s art quilts in an issue of Quilting Arts magazine. Whenever I see one of her new works I immediately recognize the artist and then I smile. Her work is happy, fun, bold and colorful in addition to being flawlessly executed.

Urban Landscapes is her first fabric collection for Clothworks. Happy, fun, bold, colorful … her signature style comes through on these quilting cottons! The colors and visual texture look like hand dyed cloth. She’s developed several free sewing patterns that really showcase the creative possibilities.

7/16/10 There’s been several requests for the fabric requirements to make the skirt:
Top Tier (orange/pink flower bricks in the pattern image above): 1/4 yard for all sizes
Middle Tier (red plaid): Size Small – 1/2 yard, Sizes Medium or Large – 5/8 yard
Bottom Tier (Red/Orange/Pink 9-Dot) – 1/2 for all sizes
1 package 1/2″ elastic
Initially, I assumed both of these patterns were going to be available on the Clothworks website. Only the quilt pattern is accessible as a download. The skirt pattern is a design that can be copied and distributed by retailers. Pink Chalk Fabrics is including a copy of the skirt pattern with every order of Urban Landscapes. The quilt pattern can be downloaded now.
It’s hot, hot, hot here in the Northwest. No one’s complaining because summer took so long to arrive! Stay cool and enjoy your weekend, xo Kathy

I’m sure you don’t need me telling you but your girls are getting so big! Also, i love that skirt, so bright and fun.
I was thinking the same thing when I looked at this picture!
I just love her new line… She does such nice work…
I love it! The colors just sing. I am loving Simba there in the grass too. You wouldn’t believe but here in San Diego (on the coast) it couldn’t be more deary. I have not worn shorts ONCE this year yet, and have bean wearing jackets ALL week. So lame.
Kathy,
I LOVE this skirt! Hope all is well with you…
The quilt pattern looks like a lot of bang for very little buck — excellent use of the fabrics to create more pattern and visual texture! The skirt is adorable too, of course.
Hi Kathy..this is completely out of the blue and I know you have far better things to do than answer random questions, but I thought I’d ask anyway on the chance that you might have an answer. Here goes: your cat is beautiful. I’m looking for one similar…big, orange, fluffy. Is he a particular breed or should I just keep on the lookout at shelters etc for a “big fluffy orange” cat? See? I told you this was random! Haha! Love your blog by the way, and when I have ordered from you I couldn’t ask for better products or service. I’m still using my mailbag pattern on a regular basis, btw. You do wonderful work! (Even if you aren’t able to answer my question about your cat!)
Hi Mariah, I LOVE this question. We refer to our cat as an ‘orange tabby’ and he came from the shelter.
Our first cat Cooper was an orange tabby that came from a neighbor who was giving away kittens. When Cooper died I went to the Oakland SPCA to get another cat that looked exactly like our old cat
Caitlin and I came home with two!
Simba and his brother Roscoe. Roscoe is no longer with us. Roscoe was a very outgoing and friendly cat (a short haired orange tabby vs. Simba’s long hair). Roscoe was our choice as he was very gentle and playful. Simba was very shy and wouldn’t come out of the corner at the pound to even let us play with him. They were living in the same cage. Caitlin and I didn’t have the heart to leave him there alone so we took both kittens home
That was 12 years ago.
I’m a huge fan of shelter animals, there are so many amazing pets just waiting for a home.
Have fun finding your match!
I’m very late in replying…but thank you! I’ve put the cat search on hold. I will eventually be “in the market” for an orange tabby, mainly because they are beautiful, but I prefer to look for cats at shelters too, so I’ll have to see when the time comes. It won’t be for a while though…when I left that comment we thought we were losing our cat we have now…but she pulled through, thankfully, and now has many years left!
That skirt pattern is darling! But how much fabric would we need to order to make it?
That is the cutest thing! Love it. Your such a good Mom. Your daughter looks adorable in that skirt. Its flirty and fun. Perfect for summer.
Such a cute skirt, you have such an eye for fabric combinations. Your daughter looks so lovely and I love how you always seem to include your kitty in so many of your images. Hope your weekend is grand. ox
Kathy,
Thank you so much for posting about my new fabric line! I love the fabrics you picked for the skirt. It looks wonderful in the blues!
Kathy
p.s. We have two orange rescue cats too!
I love the skirt! The colors are very happy I look forward to checking out the collection. I hope you are enjoying summer now that it is here. I really liked your cat story, I grew up with a long haired orange cat. Her name was Mother Nature. It came from the “it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature” advertisement about the “butter” that was actually margarine. Silly…she was a great cat
.
I just love that skirt and the fabrics – just beautiful. I wish there was another way to obtain that skirt pattern however since I don’t have any dealers near me.
Oh well.
I’m not sure what has happened to your blog this morning but the fonts are tiny today and there are things overlapping each other. It was not that way yesterday when I visited the blog. Very strange.
Vicki, thank you for the heads up on my display issues! Not sure what happened, I went in and re-saved the theme template and everything went back to normal.
skirt is darling!
I love that skirt & the photo too (oh, and i have the sweetest orange tabby cat who was a rescue as well, and named ‘Tangerine’ by the neighborhood kids who first got him to come indoors.) But really, I too want to know how much yardage of the cute Clothworks fabrics would I need to order to make that skirt for a grown-up not-skinny lady?
