Carrie is a local Pink Chalk Fabrics customer turned friend. She brought over this bag to show me and I totally fell in love with it. After insisting she absolutely must start a blog (stay tuned) I asked if I could take a picture and share it here.

This is The Lunch Bag pattern by Favorite Things. Carrie makes me laugh because she’s very passionate about saving ALL her small scraps. The ‘fabric’ for the lunch sack was created by stitching skinny strips to a base cloth. A fabulous example of taking a pattern and making it your own.

I’m excited that Carrie has agreed to do pattern reviews for the blog. She has a great eye for mixing fabrics that I know you’ll enjoy as much as I do.

We’re wrapping up our first week in the new store digs. Whew, exhilarating and exhausting. My biggest surprise is how much I’m not working in the evenings. A 24 hour, 365 day a year work schedule sort of crept in slowly, I didn’t realize how much it had taken over my life.
Having the work all around me became the norm and I was always doing something related to it, even small stuff that really could wait or even be done more efficiently along with other tasks. I always worried that I might lose my discipline for focusing on work while I was at home, just the opposite played out for me: I didn’t have the discipline to stop working, ever, and I didn’t even realize it.
I’m even thinking really radical thoughts right now of staying off the computer on Saturdays and Sundays. OMG, imagine the possibilities, could it happen!? I know it’s a dream but I’m seriously going to try. I sent the Pink Chalk Fabrics newsletter out this morning instead of my usual Saturday schedule. Can I really not check e-mail for two days in a row?
To celebrate the Pink Chalk Fabrics move we’re offering free shipping on US orders over $50 through Monday night. International customers can take 10% off their order of any size with promotional code SPRING.
Happy Easter, xo Kathy

you are right, that truly is a radical idea!
regarding carrie, i always tell her i’m her biggest fan, constantly poking her to start a blog. maybe between the two of us we can finally wear her down! i love what she did here with this bag, and concur about her great eye for mixing fabrics. i’m so glad she’ll be doing pattern reviews for you – rewarding for you both i’m sure.
and many congratulations on your move!
Congratulations on your move! Carrie’s bag is wonderful! She is a personal friend and has a such a great eye for color and detail. I always love seeing her latest creation, especially when she is using great fabric from Pink Chalk Studio!
That bag is fabulous! I am always struggling with what to do with my scraps and selvedges, and this would be a great way to use them up. I also love the ruffle and the handle coming out of the gusset. Congrats on your first week in the new shop space! I have noticed a lot of bloggers signing off on Fridays, returning on Mondays. Then your home life gets you back for the weekends!
I do the same thing with scraps. I cannot give them up. I love this bag so much.

Congratulations on your move. What a huge step. While I am truly glad this creates a new work dynamic for you, I have to admit that I will miss the excitement of checking your site for the amazing updates that always occur by Sunday night! The old CPA work ethic definitely creeps in and becomes the norm. I am hoping to get up to Washington this summer, and wonder if you welcome visitors from afar. I know you are web-based only, but I would love to meet you and see your new space in the flesh. With true admiration, Kathy.
What a lovely lovely bag!
And so happy you got moved and won’t be working 24/7 365 days a week anymore.
Enjoy this wonderful new step in your life!

Congrats on your new store.. I hope you’ll continue to take the weekends off. Your stress level will certainly be better and so will your health. The bag is adorable, thanks for sharing it with us. Haven’t visited here for quite some time, but you always have lovely projects.
As far as the computer goes, Kathy—-do it! Toss a shroud on it and walk away for two days. Extremely liberating!!! Life does indeed carry on without constant monitoring of emails and (say it isn’t so) BLOGS! I have become a total blogless blogaholic, bringing my laptop to bed even! I police my kids computer time—shouldn’t I do so for myself??? So now I close up the lid, walk away, and find other productive, creative, meaningful things to do—-like reaquaint myself with my husband, children, and pets. Even my houseplants have benefited from my return to Planet Earth. And guess what—the computer is still there, when I finally return to it, and it’s not such an all-consuming big deal after all. Whew! Now, if I could only kick that pesky heroin habit. . . ; ) And p.s. AWESOME new digs!! I am so excited for you!
LOVE that bag!!! I too save tiny scraps, but so far haven’t done anything with them except sew a few of them together with no real plan. Thanks for sharing!
