This is the part where I’d like to pull out a magic wand and ‘poof’, we’re all moved into the new space.
The build out played out on schedule. A few bumps along the way. There is one area of my life where I always second guess myself: paint colors! The new work space is no exception. I plan to live with it for a few weeks before doing anything drastic (like hiring the painter to come back and do it all again). If there was a seam ripper for taking the paint off I would have ripped it out a week ago and started over.
The internet and phone services were installed on Thursday. The final permit came Friday. I cleaned construction dust on Saturday. It was all I could do yesterday to not start moving in. My grown up self recognized the enormity of the move so this week I’ll plan and organize and schedule someone to move that big table and figure out the best way to move the fabric (ideas?).
Not that I don’t have a million other things I need to be working on, I’m just so excited it’s all I can think about. Not so patiently waiting for Christmas morning.

Somehow I think if you could wave your wand and have bloggers come help you move in you’d have more volunteers that you’d know what to do with.
)
Oh my goodness, I LOVE the vision of that. I do wish I could make that happen!
This is so exciting, Kathy! I can’t wait to see the finished pictures. Oh, how I wish I could have a gorgeous space like this for myself!
I am a new lurker but I wanted to tell you that I can’t wait to see what it looks like finished. I am so excited for you!!!!
This is so exciting!! I like the wall color, perfect to show off your quilts!! As to moving the fabric, fat quarters in bins, and bolts in plastic bags, and lots of trips!! I am so happy for you, what fun to have a dream come true!!
Just found your blog and I think I am about to lose the rest of my day to reading through the whole thing.
I’m with Stephanie…you’d have tons of help if we could click our heels 3 times and be on Bainbridge Island!
Advice – Ugh I don’t really have any, beyond don’t drink big bottles of iced tea sweetened with HF corn syrup (yes, there’s a story behind that! My caffeine is usually diet, except during moves, when I hope to get an extra burst from the sugar with the caffeine! My stomach does NOT do well with HFCS!)
I guess another bit of advice would be that not all your helpers (*cough* husband*) know the names of every single fabric line you’re carrying, so don’t use those names when asking them to move a pile for the umpteenth time! Instead, be descriptive “no not the turquoise bird print, the sky blue bird print! Yes those are DIFFERENT!”
I’m sure your life is different than mine, but oh I can totally see me and MY hubby having several breakdowns in communication!
Ooh, I guess I do have some advice – when one gets helpers, they want to help and then move on with their day, so it’s best to have decisions made before so they don’t wait around as you figure out where things should go.
And the last bit of advice – ENJOY! This is a fantastic culmination of a lot of hard work on your part, and I’m sure that the growth that comes from this will be phenomenal! Revel in the day!!
TTFN – Candy
p.s. LOVE the new header!
I really like the new header on your blog. It is very exciting to see your space is ready for a move in. Paint colors are always a bit difficult when the room is empty. I’m sure you will find you love them once the fabrics warm it up. The walls will quit bouncing off each other when there are things in the room. I’ll click my shoes together if you need a helper! Don’t forget to ENJOY!
It looks great! I can’t imagine moving hundreds of bolts of fabric, keeping everything nice and clean…hmmm…
Rent a minivan, clean the heck out of the inside, line it with sheets and stack the puppy up? Several trips I’m sure, but how else to keep everyhting clean and orderly? Good luck!
I think I love that blue window-wall! and the glowing floor! I can fully understand your eagerness…
best – Annri
I wish soooo much that I was there to help you with your move!
I love doing things like that, as you know….
Darn, I miss you, my friend.
I am so glad that things are so wonderful right now for you..
YOU are so wonderful!
Have a great move!
xoxo
.. hmmmmmm . like the new header on your blog…..xo
I love how the natural light streams through the windows. It will be a cheery workspace to go to every day. Only wish we were closer to help. Love you.
I’m so happy for you, Kathy! It just doesn’t seem that long ago that you were tentatively considering going into business. All good wishes for continued success!
Yes, paint color can be so intimidating! i just did some remodeling and found it to be the hardest part. your new space look amazing……. i’m sure whatever you decide will be GREAT! new beginnings are so exciting!
best wishes for a ‘smooth move’!
Here’s an idea
First step… Breathe… Relax…
Next step – Get some fabric in the space. Take those wonderful Heather Bailey laminates that were just posted on the site and maybe a few other favs, get a couple of tables set up in the new space in front of the Aqua/turquoise wall and throw those laminates on the table. This will give you a feel for how all the colors will work together. Then you will sleep better tonight. Go… try it…
If this goes anything like everything ELSE you touch, you will have a few learning experiences and a few laughs along the way, but in the end, it will be simply gorgeous! You’ve already got a good start on making a cheery space for all! Wish we could help!!!
As for tips on moving – promise your helpers all the food & drink they want, but don’t let ‘em touch either until the job is DONE! (to YOUR satisfaction!) Well, ok, I guess they can break for lunch, but NO BEER TILL AFTER!!
And, MUST WASH HANDS after pizza! Best wishes!
Kathy, I’ve been mia in blogland – how exciting to see this new space! Will you continue online only, or open for shoppers? My family is in Poulsbo – too bad I don’t have plans to visit soon.
Can’t wait to see the space once you move in Kathy. And I am anxious for my fabric to arrive…maybe today!
Hi Kathy–
Amy made me come today. I want solids, lots of them.
We used dollies & men. After we filled the u-hauls, we ate Azteca appetizer platter, had a coke and did it again. We just laid down moving blankets/sheets and loaded the fabric up and over. BUT, be sure your u-haul does not have a hole in the ceiling, ask me why?
Let me know if you need me. BI is not far and I have a husband that works for food & we have a Tundra with a long bed!
What a great space, I am sure beautiful things will be created there. Enjoy!
