You know how much I adore the new year (2007, 2008, 2009). Well, it pleasantly caught me a bit by surprise that 2010 is also the dawn of a new decade. I try very hard to focus on what’s ahead and let the past live peacefully. Putting a whole ten years to rest is, well, downright exhilarating! I’m just beside myself with hope and excitement for the future.
I love making lists. I’ve been scribbling down big dreams all month long. Thoughts captured while cooking holiday meals, sewing Christmas gifts, catching up on laundry, relaxing with the longest running knitting project ever, sipping wine while watching the fireworks over the Space Needle on TV, and avoiding all the work that sits waiting in every last inch of this house!
When I read back through my lists I get gooey and inspired and revved up in knowing that absolutely anything is in fact possible. Each will require focus, hard work, faith, courage, a positive outlook, and a burning desire to see the finish line.
I painted my nails first thing this morning. I’m a nail biter and have been my entire life. As with everything on my list, I’m determined not to be afraid of working toward something even though I may have failed on many, many previous occasions. I plan to step in the direction I want to go no matter how impractical or out of reach it may seem.
Wishing each of you the best decade of your life. May it be filled with big dreams, immeasurable joy and an unflappable faith to follow your voice.
xo, Kathy

Happy 2010 Kathy! to you and your family!
I wanted to share with you that I spent today making yet another “Mail Sack” bag from your lovely pattern. The pattern and directions bring me nothing but joy. It is like the “comfort food” of patterns for me. Today I was making the bag for one of my friends who I have known since kindergarden, and that too brings me joy! I will try and post a picture once I have completed the bag. The collage of pictures is a great way to review your year ! What fun! oh and look there are Robin and I in the bottom row! (what a great trip that was for us! )
All the best for 2010 Kathy.
Sincerely, one of those Canadian Girls!
Wishing you peace, joy, good health, and lots of creativity in this brand new year. Thank you for an always inspiring blog.
Happy 2010 Kathy to you and your family! The mosaic is so pretty!
Wow, what a positive approach to a new year. So inspiring, I love it! Thank you for that, and happy new year!
Happy New Year!! And nail polish cured me of nail biting many moons ago. Good luck with that too. I can’t wait to see all the fun posts from PCS this year.
Happy New Year to you and your family Kathy! I really enjoy your blog. It is always full of good things!
Unflappable faith sounds like just the thing, actually. Thanks!
Happy New Year Kathy!
I like this post! I am going to muster up all the energy my old body has and run with it! Thanks a bunch for the boost of motivation!
Happy new year Kathy,
you know last year was quite a year for you. But I know this year has many blessings in it. Clarice
I’m hoping this will be the year for me to kick the nail biting habit too! I’ve had success before using nail strengthener… we’ll see if I can do it again. Good luck!
happy new year Kathy!! I’m glad this was such a great year, and am looking forward to seeing 2010 being even better to you!
Happy New Year Kathy!
About the nail biting… keep a small emery board in your purse or pocket. Anytime you get the urge to bite take it out and smooth the rough corners and it will help you not bite. That is how I cured myself. Hope it helps.
Happy New Year my friend! Here’s to much love, happiness and success in 2010!!!
Happy New Year! I finally stopped after a life time of nail biting, too, and now I get regular manicures. I look at it as an investment in good health, which it really is. Your montage is beautiful!
Your positive energy, as usual, is downright contagious. A very happy and healthy new year to you and yours!
Kathy: I thought you would appreciate this quote, one of the first things I read on the first day of the new decade, appropos since I want to test my creative boundaries in 2010:
“Come to the edge.”
“We can’t. We’re afraid.”
“Come to the edge.”
“We can’t. We will fall!”
“Come to the edge.”
And they came.
And he pushed them.
And they flew.
(Guillaume Apollinaire)
Happy New Year Kathy! I love the New Year too – fresh and full of possibilities.

Happy 2010 and beyond! I don’t know what this next decade will have in store for you, but I can imagine that it will be wonderful and fulfilling.
Happy 2010,Kathy! Thanks for a lovely year of sharing your inspiring and creative blogs/projects! It never fails to brighten my days when I fell down. Thanks for touching my life!
Hi Kathy,
Met you at a BI fair in Dec. Didn’t realize we had so much in common: I used to have a view of space needle too. Modern sewist, passionate quilter, wine drinker, laundress.
Do you teach classes or belong to any guilds?
Peggy A.
good luck with the nail biting… i tried that one once.. worked as long as i kept my nails polished.. but that didn’t last long!
Happy New Year Kathy,
You’ll do well with anything you put your mind to. Thanks for inspiring me with such a wonderful website.
Kathy, Happy New Year to you. I am also a list maker, although I am trying to keep my 2010 goal list short and doable. I love your photo collage. I still have not posted pictures or a link yet of my SewEzi table that I bought on your recommendation. However, I wanted to let you know that I like it so much I bought another one over the holidays to keep in my Montana house. Thanks again for your inspiring blog.
Kathy, I love your “CAN DO!” spirit! Your message reminded me of the scene in The Santa Clause where one of the elfs proclaimed, “Elfes with Attitude!” Honestly, somehow New Years around the corner time always causes me to do some serious soul searching and this year was a tough one for me because of the whole decade behind you situation you mentioned. I’m a planner, a doer, a person of action, someone who wants to tackle every problem, making everything better, no, best! And it can get to feel so frustrating when sometimes things “out there” don’t seem to want to connect with our dreams, our desires, our goals, even if they are all for the greater good. Your positiveness gave me a good shot in the arm to remind myself to keep pursuing those dreams because its a whole lot better striving towards them than letting them go!
Happy New Year!!! Wishing you and the family much happiness and health for 2010. ox Melanie
love to you and Greg, Caitlin and Leil…
miss you terribly, but I, too, feel exhilarated by the surprise discovery that we just finished up the first decade of the 21st Century – wow.
I KNOW that we will find a time to be together soon…..

Oh Kathy, your are so inspiring, and your attitude is just downright contagious. Happy New Year to the Macks!! xo
Truly spoken with the wisdom and honesty of having been around the block a few times, and having not just fallen off of the turnip truck! May we all approach the new decade with foresight, energy, and high expectations, tempored with the wisdom that trying does not ever end in failure.
Best wishes to all for the new year!!
I so enjoy your blog! I am inspired each time I stop by. And – the comments are totally great also! What a great community.
Love,
Elise
