There is a very funny story related to how I got this book at Quilt Market. My mom doesn’t sew but thoroughly enjoyed walking the show floor. She viewed the experience through a lens that captured opportunities I never would have spotted.

There was a line of people waiting to meet Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins. They were there to promote and sign their new book One-Yard Wonders. The cover looked very interesting and my mom decided to stand in line to purchase a copy for a friend of hers. By the time we got to the front of the line I decided I would get a signed copy to give away on the blog. Heck, at wholesale prices we’d be getting a very good deal!

So we get to the front and have the pleasure of meeting and chatting with these two very vibrant and lovely ladies. So excited to be there talking about their book. Their energy and enthusiasm was truly infectious and a joy to experience.

My Mom pulls out a very large denomination bill to pay for the books and everyone laughs. They’re free! Yes, the publisher was sponsoring the giveaway (I guess this is true with all book signings at Quilt Market, who knew!). There was a photographer with the authors and he insisted on taking some photos with my mom trying to give them money and Rebecca and Patricia making very exaggerated gestures refusing to take any! We had such a good laugh over this.

I ended up reading this book cover to cover. Diving into the detail on projects that caught my eye. Stepping through each line of the instructions. It’s extremely well edited, illustrated, and complete.

Above is a great example of the level of detail contained in the book. I’m a stickler for accuracy and illustrations and I think this book does an excellent job of delivering on both counts.

The designs come from a wide array of talented designers including projects by Patricia and Rebecca. I spotted several friends in the mix including Elizabeth Hartman of Oh Fransson (Elizabeth’s downloadable patterns are available in the shop), Jhoanna Monte Aranez of One Red Robin (patterns also available in the shop), June Gilbank of Planet June, Michele Chisholm of Calico Daisy, and Regina Lord of Creative Kismet. Yay for all the talented designers featured in the book.
I would have enjoyed reading more about the inspiration for a book on making things with only one yard of fabric and how the authors selected the projects to include. My guess is this content may be sitting on the cutting room floor due to page budget cuts. It’s quite a volume of content (101 projects) in 302 spiral bound pages.
The projects are organized by Dwell Redux, Household Affairs, Craft Organization, On the Go, From Head to Toe (clothing and accessories), Carry It All, Outfit Your Small Wonder, Accessorize Your Little One, Playtime and Your Furry Friends. Truly a project for every occasion.

The idea of creating something from one of yard fabric is a brilliant platform for a book. A resource that can sit at the ready when the urge to create is strong. We all have those one yard cuts in our stash waiting for their opportunity to shine. One-Yard Wonders is a fabulous collection of clever designs presented in a beautiful layout sure to inspire your creative making.

I’m giving away one signed copy of One-Yard Wonders. I’m also giving away 3 fat quarter sets from Tanya Whelan’s gorgeous new collection Dolce to 3 different winners. Leave a comment sharing a project you’re making for gifts or holiday decorations. I’ll draw a winner on Monday morning.

Looks like an awesome book. And the fabric is amazing!
I’ve been busy making dresses for my daughter for Christmas and some scrap napkins (from Film in the Fridge blog) for friends.
Just finished my first quilt with Whimsy fabric in blues from Pillow and Maxfield…… learning and so much more to learn. I’d love some inspiration from a book like yours. I have developed an obsession for fabric since inheriting a machine from my mother-in-law. Love your site!
Wow! Thats a lot of comments. Your getting so popular! The project I am loving at the moment is the Lazy Girl Designs Runaround Bag. Its so easy and yet such a great size. I love that it can be made with only 2 fat quarters.
What a fun story of how you acquired the book. I’m sure you all got a good laugh over it.
Right now I’m working on a stocking for my one year old. I’m embroidering the Elf pattern from Wee Wonderfuls. I had forgotten how lovely and relaxing handstitching can be, and have found it to be a wonderful way to spend my evenings.
I’m making a quilt for my niece and crocheting a doll for my nephew. It’s getting a bit tight, so I don’t think anyone else is getting anything handmade!
Thanks for the giveaway! The book looks awesome!
This book looks to be right up my alley! I love making things so much. This Christmas I am making lots of gifts. i have made some Hot pads, thread holders, Ipod/phone cases, dyed some small fabric backpacks, sets of napkins, one of your waterbottle holders. I’m currently working on doll clothes for the doll my daughter is getting from her Nana. I am also making baby carriers for both of my daughters to carry their baby dolls in. After the holidays, I think I will be looking forward to making something bigger.
I’m making a lunch bag, lined with some plasticy halloween fabric, for my ecologically-concious college daughter…bravo for her (and reminiscent of her 60′s momma). It will allow her to pack her lunch so when she leaves her house, she can eat on campus and not have to return home. I’m also making scarves from soft fabric and fleece and tote bags for the yet-to-be-concientious in-laws!!!
I’m having so much fun and I have a fabric store in my house!
But I can always use NEW fabric…hahahahaha..ain’t that the truth.
This book looks so fun! I’m making some couch blankets out of vintage bedsheets for Christmas this year. (Also I’m making one for myself!) I love the way all the bright colors stand out and blend together at the same time. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway!

It’s definitely one i’ll make again, and again); some baskets, table runners, journal covers and a couple projects from the most recent Stitch magazine (so many to choose from
I’ve been tempted by that book, your review making it all the more tempting…. and that fabric – well let me share how low my stash is these days….. LOL. Have a great weekend and may the magic of this season makes its way into your life.
Love the chance for the giveaway! I’m working on many tablerunners for Christmas gifts as well as a quilt for our niece. Busy busy until Christmas!
I’m working on finding the time to use the fabulous fabric I’ve acquired this year. While I haven’t decided on the particulars the fabric is calling me and time is running out! I’m hoping to make a couple of aprons, smock dresses for my grand-baby, and pillow cases. I’d better get busy! Have a great Christmas!
I’m working on presents for all the birthday parties my 2 young daughters have coming up – fabric covered journals, book bags, and doll accessories. But I could sure use some other ideas and inspiration from this book.

I have already picked up this book. I fell in love with it at Barnes & Noble and I am itching to get started on a whole bunch of these projects. In the meantime I a knitting a pair of Monkey socks, trying to finish a sweater for my husband, planning to make some cosmetic bags for my friends and 2 colored pencil rolls for my daughters (I made one for myself and I loved working with this pattern). I’m finishing an “angel” quilt for my sister who is such a angel and just have to put together one stocking to be hung with care for a new addition to our family.
Would love to win one of your give-a-ways.
Hello, thanks for such a great giveaway. I am working away trying to finish patchwork pillows for my nieces and nephews – 10!
These fabrics are GREAT! I especially like the lavendar colorway. This collection looks so fresh, I keep imagining the bird/orange floral as curtains billowing in the spring breeze. Hahaha could that have anything to do with us being under a winter storm warning?
. Good luck to me and everyone else and thanks to YOU!
The book looks like my kind of book as well, seems to be step by step and that’s exactly what I need
i’m working on dresses for darling granddaughters, tops for them, pants for them, some towels/aprons/potholders for daughters and this fabric or the book would be wonderful to find new ideas … there are way to many things to even imagine getting done by christmas (THIS YEAR!!!) … thank you for the wonderful giveaway … i’m hoping to win, even though i feel like i’m #5,743,673 on this blog!
OOPS! me again. I hit the button before i finished. I am working on a Christmas fabric strip wallhanging. I am a fabricaholic so the choices are making me crazy
. I hope to have it done by Christmas though. I bought a stretched canvas from michaels and once it’s sewn, I’ll staple it to the canvas and oila! instant (ha!) art.
I just bought this book and can’t wait to get it. I am making mini totes and pencil rolls for the kiddies and the fat quarters I have been buying all year are coming in handy. Having projects that deal with my one yard fabric faves will go a long way to reducing my stash. Martha
I’m making a couple tea wallets for my relatives.
I am making a slew of presents for Christmas. I made 20 moss terrariums with fun glass I’ve been thrifting since June. I made ceramic mushrooms for each of them as well. I am making quilted patchwork pillows for each of my children, as well as purses, pajama pants, a bunch of stuffies and other small items for family members. I also made a leather journal for my brother, folding all the signatures, stitching it all together and I love it! Nothing beats handmade presents that recipients will treasure for a long time!
I’m currently working on felt decorations with patterns from Posie Gets Cozy.
Ooh yes, please! I’m working on a disappearing 9-patch made from Chez Moi’s Charisma line for my MIL. Just need to quilt and bind!
I am trying to quickly finish a holiday flag banner to string up over the fireplace, and my tree skirt isn’t finished (eek!). Thanks for the chance at snagging a great looking book!
OH…what a great story and a terrific give-a-way!!!! I am working on my first doll for my first daughter, after FOUR boys…..from the looks of this dolly, I am going to have to keep practicing!! I am also quilting my mom’s quilt…..before my above mentioned little girl has surgery on Friday.

I have been making pillows for kids with their name appliqued in different fabrics and a scrappy border made of the same fabrics. They have been for my grandkids, their friends, grandkids of friends etc. So much fun and using many of my scraps. your giveaway is great and look forward to seeing who wins!
I’ve made some felt decorations for a swap, I got it from Zakka Life and have since decided to use some very unChristmasy felt colours. I am also making a guitar strap for my step-daughter off the top of my head…who knows where that will end up…and I’m knitting my Mum a cardy…it’s been really fun! I also hope to be able to have enough time to make my boy a chef’s hat and an apron as he loves to bake.
Thanks!!
Love! Must put that book on my holiday wish list.
I just made two rice heat therapy bags, one for my husband and one for the aunt I pulled in the family grab bag. I also made a Kindle cover for my mom (and am hoping to have reason to make one for myself!).
Love the book, and LOVE that new fabric line. The purple/orange fat quarter set is calling my name.
The colors are beautiful!! They make me feel so happy on such a wintery day. I love the book! What great ideas. When I’m out shopping the fabric stores I like to get a yard of many different fabrics, now I have some new ideas for what I can do with all my 1 yard pieces.
I love this concept. The idea that you can do a lot with a little. Perfect for using your own stash. This holiday season I’m sewing aprons galore, and customized camera straps. I always enjoy your blog
Thanks.
Making aprons, a camel (been on the go forever and I mean forever), a christmas tree skirt, and a wall hanging with lots of presents on it which means lots of small pieces of material being used. Thanks for the chance to enter and maybe win!!
I did the yarn tree from Pretty Ditty’s blog and they turned out so fabulous! Also some paper folded ornaments that I found on the inkspiration. I have been positively dying to get some of the Dolce fabric. Crossing fingers and toes!
I am having SO much fun working with my Sheri Buri Christmas fabrics…using the retro colors as a new Christmas theme, i.e, minature wall hangings, garlands, doll dress, ornaments, etc. The big project is a Judy Neimeyer quilt, just can’t stop working on that…just 1 more seam!
I made an advent calendar for my 2 year old, too many potholders to count, 3 queen size quilts, and Amy Butler’s Birdie Sling! I’ve been busy! And I’ve been eyeing Dolce for about a month now! I SOOO love it! Thanks for the giveaway!
Let’s see, I’m finishing up a quilt for my sister in Cape Cod, I hope to make some yo-yo christmas trees as hostess gifts, and maybe a few grocery bags. Of course I have 3 quilts in the making for after the holidays!! Thanks for the giveaway!
Well, I just put down a quilt for my mom. All I left is the binding – woo hoo! I’m also still piecing a quilt for my sister-in-law. I’ve got the blocks made but still can’t decide on the layout so I’m getting a little nervous. I’ve got two weeks to finish so wish me luck!
Oh my, look at all those comments! I’m trying to make a quilt in 20 days. I have eight days to go. Half of the blocks are wonky houses, and the other half are embroidered flowers (medallions I drew myself, with the flower in the middle, the English name at the top and the Latin name at the bottom). I’m halfway done with houses and more than half done with medallions. Must keep sewing!
Well, I plan to make Christmas tree napkins – course, I’ve not started yet! They may be my project for New Year’s Eve and a gift for next year! Great blog!!!
Awesome giveaway! I’m knitting and crocheting things for many of my family members, but my mom and grandma are getting table runners, as per their requests. I’m also stitching something up for my boyfriend, but he has absolutely no idea…
3 double sized quilts! 2 for my children (I thought they would be lap size when I started – not good with math obviously) and 1 for my assistant at work. Next year everyone is getting gift cards. Ha ha.
