Toffee Tunic

Johanna is another creative member of the Pink Chalk Fabrics team. She makes amazing clothes for herself and her family. This adorable tunic features Heather Ross Far Far Away double-gauze cotton. A beautiful gift for her young niece.

The pattern is #3 from the previous issue of Ottobre Design (3/2009 Summer). I’m excited to now be carrying Ottobre in the shop beginning with issue 4/2009 Autumn.

If you’re not familiar with Ottobre:

Each issue contains more than 40 designs presented in a magazine layout style with color pictures, descriptions, fabric recommendations, instructions, and full sized patterns. The pattern sheets contained in the magazine require tracing before use (it is an overlay design with color coding). There is both a Yahoo group and a Flickr group dedicated to making clothing from Ottobre magazine. Visiting either site makes me want to immediately stop whatever I’m doing and go sew clothes!

Sizing is based on the metric system. Children’s issues contain patterns for Babies, Toddlers, and Girls/Boys (up to 170 cm in height or 5 1/2 feet, big kids!).

I find the women’s issues to be a breath of fresh air. Models feature real women with real bodies. Most issues contain at least one pattern for maternity wear or designs that can be converted for maternity wear. It includes European sizes 34 to 52 (US size 4 to 22).

I love Ottobre. I have a subscription but I’m glad to know you’ll be carrying it. The drafting on their patterns is superb.

What an adorable tunic and that fabric looks so nice sewn up. The fabric I ordered arrived today. It is always wonderful to see and feel the fabric in person and I can hardly wait to get started on the halter pattern. Thanks so much for the recommendation on the fabric, and sending along samples of it. It really is an interesting fabric though, lovely to the touch. Thanks so much for the amazing service, you are the best. Oh and I love the Pink Chalk Fabrics tape measure, thanks!!!!

Thank you for offering the Ottobre magazine. I have heard so much about it that all I want to do now is sew clothes. I will wait for the summer issue (hopefully you will inform us via your blog) so I can purchase it for our year long summery weather.
