Spring Quilt Market 2009 - More Fabric
May 21st, 2009 by Kathy

Della Q is a unique business that specializes in beautiful silk taffeta. Both yardage and finished goods.
Della Quimby is the owner and a fabulous new friend. We met through two cooperative magazine ads that recently appeared in American Patchwork & Quilting as well as Stitch (you can see the ad text at www.StitchChatter.com). She lives in Seattle and we share an area code so go figure that we flew to Pittsburgh to meet in person for the first time!
Many of the quilts in Della’s booth are kits available on her website. Most were designed by Debbie Maddy of Calico Carriage Quilt Designs who I had the pleasure of sharing a fantastic dinner with on Saturday night.
I’m really digging the trend of new fibers marching into the quilting and sewing world. Fun!

More inspiration from the Valori Wells’ booth. I love the simplicity of these Del Hi quilts. Before I looked closely at the photos I thought they were the free pattern but these are actually much more straightforward. Pieced strips alternating with a solid. Too cool and could work for so many fabrics. Did anyone measure those strip widths?
The t-shirts are silk-screened with her designs. Gorgeous. She talks about the details in a blog post and states they’ll be available soon from her website.

I snapped these images from the Heather Ross corner of the Seven Islands booth (the distributor). The entire collection will be re-appearing in the shop next week. The Mary Janes are my fav!

The Paula Prass booth for Michael Miller. I am so excited about this collection. Whenever I have the opportunity to add to my vintage cotton collection I always go for the grey and black so I naturally totally freaked when I saw the color palette for Summer Soiree. The zebra stripes, the houndstooth, zigs zags, and lace, Wow. My favorites in the booth were the ottoman and the little girl’s dress, what a showcase for all the designs. I was lucky to meet Paula and her daughter, icing on the cake.

Bari J. Ackerman standing in front of her Full Bloom sample quilt in the Windham booth. I’m a long time fan of Bari’s blog and her custom handbags. I had it on my list to get a picture of that quilt and guess who was there? Bari herself. What a beautiful person she is. Amazing talent and enthusiasm. Meeting her was a true delight.
A quick note on the number of comments being left: I honestly had no idea this would happen. I just wanted to give a lot of prizes so the chances of winning would be higher. It seems a bit crazy and I don’t know what I think of that. Hopefully everyone is having fun. I truly wish I could meet and share a gift with everyone that reads my blog. I thank you from my heart for all the very nice words, I appreciate every one.
Leave a comment on any post this week to be eligible for the prize drawing Monday morning, May 25th. You get one entry for each comment left. One prize per person so we can spread the goodness.

Ooh! I never get to be the first to comment.
But, I wish I knew the pattern for those cute little dresses in the HR fabric - any idea? Super cute!
No need to apologize for not giving everyone prizes! I am enjoying your recap and seeing all the new product that will be coming available. Looks like a really fun show.

That little girl’s dress - is it the Michael Miller fabric? I think so. That’s great, I just live that…! What a feast for the eye, all these colours and patterns in your pictures - really really enjoying them!
Such inspirations!
I am looking all over for Valorie’s T-shirts
I love the interesting new fabrics and agree that using fabrics other than 100% cotton is a wonderful new “trend”. I want to see the Paula Prass fabrics in person.
The Far far Away samples are so cute! I’m enjoying all your posts about market.
Thanks for sharing your adventure. Looks like a great time and such gorgeous fabrics. Wish I could have attended.
All the little extras are so fun and inspiring. The Valori Wells t-shirts look super cute.

Thanks for sharing the market fun! Valori’s stripes are amazing!
You’re killing us with colour. I was sad that I miss all these fabulous wool/sheep festivals and now I’m sad I miss fabric ones too.
Yay for Della Q. She’s a local business owner who is doing great work across the globe.
I’m always surprised by all the Quilt Market photos. TNNA, the yarn industry’s big trade show, strictly forbids taking photos.
WOW!! so many lovely things! gets the creative juices flowing! Thanks!
Oooh I love that white pillow with the red bird. I keep meaning to make something like that, where is my list…
I love the new Valori Wells prints! Looking forward to getting them soon!
Okay - I just scrolled backthorugh the past few posts to see the number of comments - HOLY COW! Almost like when the Yarn Harlot got married! You’re a poplar gal!
I’m LOVING all the color you’re photographing!
The purests are gonna freak! Adding other fibers besides cotton to our quilts??? Heaven forbid! But you know, our forefathers did, using what was available…guess the richer you were (as in victorian era), the more mixing was going on!
thank you for sharing all… the black & white outline fabric on the Valorie Wells pillows is so interesting. I would love to have my kids color it in with crayons, iron to set the color and then frame it… so many INTERESTING things could be done! Also, LOVE LOVE the paula prass collection… reminds me that if I had any girls I would so be broke!
Hehehe. Hey - you’re giving away some amazing treats! Of course the commenters are going to come out in force. Look at it this way - you have a lot more internet friends out there than you probably knew!
Wonderful photos, thank you!
I love those silk-screened t-shirts!
Those silks are beautiful… they’ look so rich a vibrant!

Great pictures! Thanks again for giving us glimpses into the Market world!
Love, love, love Bari J’s coat.
I really like the simple stiped quilts, alternating the solid color with pieced strips. That would be so easy to do, and a great way to frame a fabric collection! Thank you for sharing your photos — they are fabulous.
Wow! I’m trying to keep up with your posts. I hope I’m not doubling up here, but I want to win one of those prizes. Your photos are so great.
The next best thing to being there - thanks for all the sharing this week!
I LOVE those quilts with the print alternating with solid stripes. So simple, yet it looks amazing! Thanks for sharing!!
I was wondering about those Del Hi quilts! I totally want to make one that simply. Maybe one palette on one side, and the ohter on the flip! A multi-season or multi-mood quilt!
Those booths look awesome! I wish I could be there to look at all of those.
Oh I LOVE Della! We met her last year, and she is such a bright spark of a person.
I’ve having much fun seeing it all through your eyes. Thanks!

Those quilt patterns are beautiful.
I love the fabric used on those cushions! Feeling very inspired to leave work and head home to do some sewing!
I’m just loving all the great photos, thanks for sharing!
Oh I want to go to America to shop!!!!! You are so lucky over there… Thank you!
How on Earth do you keep your wits when at a beautiful market like this? It all looks so very delicious and inspiring and amazing! Then again, i get overwhelmed at my local (read not a chain) Fabric store!
The new Heather Ross fabric is just KILLING me! I managed to get a tiny bit of it, but now I don’t want to cut it, because it’s so scarce. I’m peeved about her not being able to design fabric for awhile. I think her and Denyse Schmidt are my favorite designers!
I am thanking you for bringing such inspiration to my computer! I love sewing with silk - nice to touch, sew, the shimmer! Cheers.
It looks like you had such a good time! Lucky girl.

Honestly? I can’t decide which of those fabric lines I like the best. I’ve pretty much given up and decided that part of my hobby is the acquisition of said fabrics. Makes the lusting and purchase more official somehow.
