Esther’s Fabrics is my local fabric shop here on Bainbridge Island. It is the oldest continously operating fabric store in the State of Washington.

Customers were invited to bring in quilts to hang in celebration of their 50th Founder’s Day this month. The name of the show is ‘50 Lids’.

I took a couple of my tiny quilts down. The girls would never part with their bed quilts even for one day. Grown-up kid security blankets.

I realized that I don’t own the majority of quilts I’ve made. They’re all living with friends and family around the world.

Seeing the home grown show reminded me how fabulous it is to create quilts. All the joy it brings to my life. How lucky I am to call myself a quilter.
Happy 50 Esther’s!

That would be the best kind of quilt show. Wishing Esther’s another 50!
Wonderful to see “Esther’s!” I remember when you took me there and how I could’ve spent the entire day there. What a wonderful place and wonderful, creative women working there…..
HaPpY 50th to EsThEr’S!
Ooooh that’s going to mean a trip out to Bainbridge for me. I’ve only been out there once and somehow missed Ether’s.
Ahhh, darn. Esther’s is *my* favorite quilt shop, too, but with the Hood Canal Floating Bridge closed, there is no way I can get there from my home in Port Townsend! Maybe I could kayak across Hood Canal? Anyway, thanks for the photos!
After purchasing the Janome 6500 and the yards of fabric from your shop, all I ever think now is quilting. Even before finishing I already have another idea in mind. Unfortunately I may have to take three to five weeks break since I hurt my right foot with a dropped rotary cutter. The wound is healing nicely but it still hurts badly. The doctor suspects a hairline fracture.
How is the binding/border done on that last quilt?
I remember going there with my grandma and my Great Aunt Janie when I was a kid…Good memories.
Happy 50th Esther’s!
Yes, Cheers! Filling your home (or your loved ones home) with handmades one of the most practical and meaningful acts I can think of. Thanks for inspiring me Kathy, I know that even thought we have never met I can count on being inspired here.
Minka: I’m not sure. I didn’t look too closely at the detail when I was in the shop. You can look at a larger image of the photograph on Flickr:

It looks to me like two sides were sewn on and then the second pair, the ends overlapping the first set.
Hooray for Esther’s! I wasn’t much of a sewer when I lived on Bainbridge, and didn’t spend too much time looking at their fabrics, but I certainly spent a lot of time going through their button stocks! What wonderful people, and what a wonderful place. Here’s to the next 50 years!
Yay for Esthers!
What a magnificent way to celebrate by having all of those quilts on display!
If you get a chance pop over to my blog and tell me what you think about my first attempt at french knots on some bags I just put in my shop.

How exciting! All of those quilts are so lovely. Would you have images of the quilts you submitted? Happy Mother’s Day!
I love Esther’s.
I might be in Bainbridge on Saturday…I will try to stop by this shop for sure!!
My sweet husband always drops me by to browse when we pass through. I always leave with at least a few FQs.
Happy Birthday Esthers!!!
