Here’s my contribution to the Bloggers Quilt Festival going on at Park City Girl. I headed over to Flickr to choose one. First off, it is so amazing to look back over 3 years worth of creative work. I hadn’t looked at my own photostream for some time. I highly recommend the experience!

The quilt I made for my sister Jenny is by far my most favorite quilt. I enjoyed reflecting on it this morning and remembering the time I spent alone in my sewing room creating this for someone I love so much.

The quilt is packed with so many emotions: tears, laughter, fear, acceptance, hope, and most of all love.

It taught me that making a quilt is a journey packed with beautiful hidden gifts for the maker and the recipient.

We’re thankful that Jenny has been cancer free since her chemo ended in September of 2007. Thank you again for all the prayers that were said across the world for her.
update: I intended to link to the original post on this quilt . The hands are me, Caitlin & Leil, my sister Anna, my sister Liz and our nephews Stephen and Matthew.

This is amazing! I love the quilting and the hands…great work!
SUPER cool quilt.
Gorgeous! It is a favourite quilt of yours for me too!! So glad to hear that your sister is doing so well. Hope the weekend is grand.
Kathy, your work is always amazing! I love this quilt and I can see why it is your favorite!
The quilt you made for your sister is breathtaking. It is beautiful in so many ways. I can see exactly how much love you put into it. Thank you for the beautiful inspiration.
Beautiful–I love the hands! Is there a special significance to them?
this is spectacular. the quilting is amazing. i am at a loss for better words…just blown away.
I remember you posting about this. It is a wonderful quilt and it is such a touching story. I’m happy to hear Jenny has been cancer free!
This quilt is just amazing. What a wonderful gift…both the quilt and the health of your sister. I love hands placed on quilts. I think that and birds are two of my favorite things. Great Work. Just stunning.
I remember when you first posted this one. I was (and still am) in awe. It’s beautiful!!!!!
That is a beautiful, amazing quilt – so packed with love and hope. I know your sister could feel the love you sewed into it.
I remember this one! It still is one of my favorites too.
A very special quilt. The loving hands are a special touch.
Wow! That is fabulous. Love the hands!
This is so bright, fun and funky. I love the hands, I wish I would have done my kids hands when they were smaller. Now at 10 & 11 their hands are as big as mine. I am so happy to know that your sister is still living strong. On a side note, I received fabric from you yesterday, I just love the peacocks and I love how fast you ship!!!!!
Love this quilt! I remember you posted about it and I’m happy your sister is cancer free now!!
I love this quilt. It’s so bright, and the hands give it so much meaning. My mom made one for my little brother when he went through chemo, and now makes them, and pillowcases, for the hospital so other kids going through it have something to cuddle with.
Oooh, I remember this one! I’m so glad to hear that your sister is doing well
What a fantastic quilt. It’s beautiful, and the story behind it is wonderful as well. She must feel so many hugs when she wraps this around herself!
I LOVE it!! The colours … the applique … the quilting … and most of all the meaning.
Thanks for sharing!!
Andi
What an amazing quilt and beautiful sentiment. The hands on the top are such an organic and significant addition to a modern sampler.
Yup, this is an awesome quilt…and I’m so glad for the update on Jenny – as soon as I saw the hands I remember why you’d made it, started to worry about her for like 2 sentences and then – PHEW! she’s doing fine! YAY!
Kathy, this is an amazing quilt with such a wonderful story and happy ending. She is a very blessed sister in many ways.
What a beautiful quilt! It’s a work of art, I think– especially when one considers all the heart that it carries with it. Thanks for sharing it!
What a beautiful quilt. The colours are just glorious. Obviously made with huge helpings of love. Glad that your sister is still going strong.
O…I love that quilt…so full of Color and Love!!!
Stunning work! I too love the process of the actual making of the quilt, and how that quilt reminds you of the time in your life when you were making it, and the emotions that come with it! I have made a lot of quilts and friends often ask “where are you going to put this one and who is it for?”, but for me it is more about the process of making the quilt, then where I am going to PUT it. Your quilt is stunning!
Beautiful!
Man, I love this quilt
Beautiful quilt. So happy for Jenny!
That’s so great to hear! I don’t remember this quilt, but perhaps that’s because I was going through my own cancer treatment at the time. It’s been a year since I finished treatment. There are many times when I completely forget about it for days even! Anyway, this is a very sweet quilt. I love the hands and all the wonkiness!
oh, i love this quilt!! the hands are so great!!
That’s a really neat quilt and the hands are an added touch. Nice!
beautiful! and the little hands, so clever!!
I remember that quilt – it is so beautiful and so full of love – and was going to ask how your sister is doing. I am so glad to hear she is doing well!
Great story! And I love the significance of the hands. I’ll bet she loves it.
what a beautiful quilt and such a beautiful story. sister’s are so special. i just the love hands and the importance of them. i am glad that your sister is doing well.
That is the most beautiful quilt I have ever seen!! I LOVE IT!! I am sure you sister does too! I am so glad she is doing well!!
I’ve been enjoying your blog for some time then! I remember when you posted this quilt originally. I also remember getting goosebumps when I read it. I remember thinking about the fact that quilting is like that. It’s not just fabric arranged and stitched together nicely (it is that too), but you put a piece of yourself into it. In this instance with the handprints it’s even more. A very special quilt indeed.
Wow how pretty, I love the purples!
Oooo, I like this quilt! The happy outcome for the recipient makes it even better :- )
I absolutely love this quilt! I loved it from the first glance at it…when I read the story behind it I fell even more in love. Bravo…this is just fabulous!
A very beautiful and meaningful quilt.
WOW, this is beautiful…. I just love it.
love the variety of fabrics and designs, all unified by the wonderful border… the hands add just the right “fun” on the top of it all…
Beautiful quilt and a lovely story, thanks for sharing.
Such a beautiful quilt!!!!!
Kathy – I’d not seen this one before – It is so beautiful! I love how each of the blocks are unique, but similar to another, kinda like people. I’m so thankful that your sister is cancer free – what a testimony of strength. Having the hands in there is so meaningful too
Wow!
It´s one of the most beautifull quilts I have ever seen!
Great work!
I’ve always been a lurker here, but this quilt has prompted me to write. It is gorgeous! Granted, everything you do is amazing. Still, this one is my favorite. The lavender background makes all the other colors just pop. Truly lovely and inspiring. Thank you for posting it.
