Shop Talk – Stitch is Here

I composed a post each day this week, unfortunately they never had a chance since the words didn’t make it to the keyboard. It’s been one of those weeks. I’ve:

ironed dirty jeans for my kids at least twice this week
thrown track clothes into the laundry at midnight
had an x-ray on my right foot (bone spurs, [...]

My New Iron

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

Stainless steel soleplate glides over the fabric.
A nice heavy feel in the hand.
Digital settings from 1 to 7 for different types of fabric. The guide is printed on the iron.
Auto-shutoff. A controversial feature for many quilters. A must have for me. I’m just too bad about [...]

As many of the Epicurious reviewers recommend, I plan to up the lemon juice next time around. I liked everything about this recipe: the shortbread crust, [...]

Here’s my contribution to the Bloggers Quilt Festival going on at Park City Girl. I headed over to Flickr to choose one. First off, it is so amazing to look back over 3 years worth of creative work. I hadn’t looked at my own photostream for some time. I highly recommend the experience!

The quilt I [...]

Double-Fold French Binding – Creating the Binding

All my quilts get finished with a double-fold French binding. The following images show the first step in the process: creating the binding itself.
1. Cut 2 1/2″ strips selvage to selvage.
To calculate number of strips required: measure the outside of the quilt. Divide the total by 40″ (the length of a strip), round up. [...]

I Always Do My Collars First

I had to wrap up my posts on quilt backs with a quick mention on how I press my seams. This is so important. And maybe a wee bit boring so I’ll keep that part short.
Fortunately, thinking of ironing reminded me of something much more interesting: an independent documentary film called “I Always Do My [...]
