Knitting in the Sun: 32 Projects for Warm Weather by Kristi Porter is scheduled for a May, 2009 release. The book will feature all summer weight projects including shells, tanks, lighweight wraps, bags, home decor, accessories, and more!
The book features many talented designers. The amazing design in the photo is by Carol Feller. You can see more of Carol’s work at her blog Stolen Stitches.
I did a quick search on knitty.com for more of Kristi’s work (she’s a contributor there). Wow, she’s so amazingly talented! Now you know I’m not a ‘real’ knitter and I’m not intimate with all the talented personalities in the knitting world which means you probably all know Kristi and this is old news to you (I’m always the last to know!). I’m feeling very lucky to have discovered her designs.
Anna Maria is an excerpt from the book printed on cardstock as a stand alone pattern. Stitched in bamboo, I love the hourglass-stitch details. By the way, it was 37 degrees here this morning so be forewared: winning this pattern will induce warm weather fantasies! (I’ll also be receiving a full copy of the book so look out for that giveaway in May.)
To be eligible for this drawing leave a comment sharing something fabulous you know about Kristi or a summer knitting project you have in your sights. Winners for each drawing this week will be chosen on Monday, Jaunary 26.

OMG! That is SO gorgeous!!!
I don’t know much about kristi porter, but I have been in awe of her intoxicating sweater since no sheep for you came out. The tank pattern looks divine.
Wow, this pattern is stunning. I have some delicious bamboo yarn that I am dying to find just the right pattern for this summer.
I, too, have a bunch of pretty green/blue babmoo yarn that is just crying to be made into a summer tank – like the one in the picture! So cute!
I am planning to make a bunch of Mason-Dixon Monteagle bags this summer as a jump on Christmas! Yeah cotton knitting in the summer
I plan to knit up quite a few summer tanks for myself this year. That is, as soon as I get these bags sewn.
I am just starting on knitting. I’m working on a scarf. I hope that I get good enough before summer to make a summer project!
I don’t know anything about Kristy, nor much about the knitting world. BUT! I am in the process of learning to knit and have made a scarf and cap and I’m working two other scarves for gifts. I LOVE it!! The summer project in my sights would be a beautiful shawl that I found a pattern for recently (summers in San Francisco are anything but warm!). It’s fairly easy, but it’s done in a gorgeous expensive yarn. I want to do it just like the picture on the pattern, so before I invest in expensive materials, I need to get my skilz happening!
That looks like it would be the perfect book for a Southwest knitter! Since it’s cold enough for wool here for about two weeks out of every year (it’s already been 80 degrees this week), we can feel a little left out with most sweater patterns out there.
Oh, and I just finished her Haiku. Sweet!
This would be a great change of pace from the hats and scarves I have been knitting this winter!!
I am hoping to be able to make a simple wrap by this summer. It is still cold at night here in Colorado throughout the summer. I will need to become more proficient before then, though!
well since I live in a warm climate, I am always looking for good knitting projects that will translate- a whole book of them sounds EXCELLENT!
my most recent knitting project is the Clementine Shawlette from Interweave Knits.
i would love a light spring/summer shawl to wear over dresses but i must confess i don’t plan on knitting it myself! my sister is the master knitter and i’d love to surprise her with this book.
i plan to tackle norah gaughan’s snapping turtle skirt for this year’s warm weather knitting!
Kristi along with be a fabulous designer is a detailed tech editor, a skill that helps other designers express their patterns clearly.
As of yet I don’t have summer knitting plans, except to design a cabled sweater for my Father-in-law.
I’d never heard of Kristi until I read your post – but I’ll be googling her. I’ve just begun knitting – a couple of scarves and my latest – wrist warmers in a lacy pattern. A summer shell would be a wonderful project for the warmer months.

I’m not a “real” knitter, by a long shot – but think about becoming one often! My grandmother used to make gorgeous light weight summer type sweaters, but she only taught us to make big, bulky (and frankly ugly!) scarves that never turned out well.
What an inspiration a book like this provides! Maybe I will go buy those new needles after all. Thanks for the tip!
What I know about Kristi Porter is that she wrote “Knitting Patterns For Dummies” – an excellent book.
I’d like to knit the beautiful wrap on the cover of this book.
These look great for summer. I’d love to try to make one of these with silk yarn —- just to spoil myself.

I want to try some bamboo yarn, too! Also, the new organic cottons are getting drapier and more lovely all the time. For a summer project, I’d like to make that Anna Maria top in the picture! It’s gorgeous!
I love to knit light scarves in the summer. Linda Gerig
I’m not sure just what my summer knitting projects will be, but I know they will involve alpacha. I bought some alpacha yarn from a lady that I work with who raises alpacha and sells the yarn spun from her fleece. I want to try my hand at dyeing some and then maybe knitting a pair of socks;) This book looks and sounds very interesting.
Beautiful book – my knitting projects include baby items for my grandson who is due in May. I plan to make an afghan plus a baby sweater and booties and whatever else catches my fancy. Babies are so much fun to knit for and when it is your own grandson it is even more fun!
I want to knit something in silk this summer….something fabulous to drape around my neck.
Sorry, I don’t know Kristi and no projects in line for me. I just learned to knit last year, wactching videos on YouTube. Maybe I’m not ready for this yet (a lot to practice first!).
My summer knitting project is a lacy cardigan to be done in a lightweight cotton or bamboo….I’m thinking sea green….but I’d love to add this tank to my list! It’s gorgeous!
Great pattern!! Love it.
sigh, i am still working on this lacy shawl that I started a month ago with no end in sight… my goal is to finish that one in another month so I can start something new!!
My summer knitting projects are going to be to get a head start on some winter things for my kids. In the past I start them in the fall or winter when they ask for something and by the time I get it done it is warm and does not get worn!
Summer knitting seems like an oxy moron, but I have a really sweet ruffle tank pattern that my girls would look adorable in!
My summer knitting plan which I want to start rightaway is the Jane Austen dress from Mason Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines.
Ahh.. summer knitting. Some day I will finish my Zephyr Style Rusted Root short sleeve lacey shirt
I went to college with Kristi!
I’d love to make a short-sleeved Sahara by Wendy Bernard. I also want to make some Perfect Dresses from Little Turtle Knits. They are a great blend of knit and sew.
I love to knit like Elizabeth Zimmermann, the knitters almanac has it perfect-Mittens in May. Small, portable and you don’t have a lot of yarn on your lap making you hot. I”ll also work on a cotton sweater like Rusted Root.
THanks for the contests!
