Gift Tag Making Tips
- The Yes! Paste worked great. It did not cause the paper to curl.
- I used the small putty knife to smooth the paste on in a VERY thin layer to the paper.
- I used the bigger knife to smooth the fabric to the paper. That was sort of messy moving from the center to the outside. I placed a second piece of paper on top so I didn’t get glue on the knife.
- I have no patience so I cut the cards apart with the scissors before it was dry. I cleaned the scissors with a damp rag afterwards
- Fabric is Kitty Kristmas Mint by Alexander Henry. Next up: the Apples + Pears in the background of photo 1, I think cutting out the fruit shapes will be cute.

I’m overwhelmed with the response for quilt pattern ideas for the Robots fabric. Thank you! I’ll be going through all the recommendations and selecting the winner early next week. For the patterns the random number generators (Caitlin and Leil) chose:
- #3 Kristin L
- #84 Lauara Tawney
- #111 Melanie
If you’re extremely observant you’ll note that Melanie has been a winner before. She’s luckier than I am! If you’re super observant you’ll note Kristin is a very good blog buddy of mine. To keep everything on the up and up we chose two more winners: #18 aSprinkling and #73 Julia Ferre, they’ll be receiving a copy of the new Yo-Yo Dachshund pattern by Indygo Junction.

We got snow Thursday morning and the kids started Winter Break two days early, yipppeee!

Have you tried using heat and bond. Iron it to the fabric then ironing the fabric to paper then cut out the shapes you want for tags. It might be less messy.
Wow, look at all that beautiful snow!
The tags are adorable, perfect way to personalize any gift.
On another note entirely, I read the Seattle Times this morning (on-line), and it sounds like you really need to batten down the hatches on Saturday. Hope all your trees stay upright, and you keep your power. Good heavens, one can’t use the lovely sewing machine without power! (thank goodness for knitting needles and a YARN STASH—-see the merit?). take care, and enjoy hunkering down!—Laurie
Hi Kathy, Just wanted to say I was so happy to see the “Yipppeee!” at the end of your post referring to the kids getting out of school two days early. So many blogging moms lately seem to be dreading having their kids home. I well understand the stresses, but personally, I LOVE having my kids around and I’m so happy to see that someone else does too! I also LOVE the gift tags. I’m on the lookout for Yes! Paste today. Lots of fabric in the stash to make some cute tags. Haven’t started my Christmas wrapping yet, so I’m all set.
Have a wonderful Christmas! -Mariah (in San Francisco) PS I FINALLY got my mail sack made and I’ve made a couple more too. No pictures, alas, but I’ll see what I can do.
Laurie: We’re getting a kick out of the inaccurate weather forecasts around here. We were supposed to get a big snow on Tuesday and the sun was out all day long. The next prediction was snow this weekend. Of course, with no warning, it started to snow early Thursday morning and it didn’t stop.
Now we’re frozen in. The roads are really amazing, completely covered with ice. We have a four wheel drive truck so I’ve continued to take my orders to the post office everyday but it’s unbelievably quiet on the island, everyone is just staying at home. I’m definitely glad to have a project on the needles in case the power goes out!
I started the Clapotis scarf that several people recommended the last time I asked. I like the rhythm of the pattern although it seems like it’s going to take me forever to finish it!
Mariah: Thanks for your note. Can’t wait to see your Mail Sack! I need to make myself a new one but I can’t decide on the fabric
I just received my pattern in the mail yesterday!! Thank you so much! It looks very easy and good. Thanks for posting such neat ideas here.
Cute gift tags! I hope you are staying warm in this snow!
cute tags! Merry Christmas
The pattern has arrived! Thanks.
