I finally got my act together and set up the tri-pod BEFORE starting to cook dinner. Recently re-published in Food and Wine magazine, this yummy creation by Chef Charles Phan of the Slanted Door restaurant in San Francisco has become our new family favorite. I’ve made it every week for a month. Served with steamed rice, it’s a wonderful one-dish comfort meal.
I purchase about 2 1/2 pounds of boneless chicken thighs, mix two bowls of the sauce, and prepare the dish in two separate pans. Two of the same dish side-by-side vs. doubling everything in the same pan.

I follow the recipe exactly. The first time I made it I had a hard time visualizing how the watery looking sauce was going to caramelize but it worked like magic.
One tip: the sauce can burn at the end if you’re not watching! Don’t simmer the pans at too high a heat.

This looks delicious! I’ll have to give it a try!
Beautiful photos

I was wondering, will your table runner pattern be coming out soon? I am hoping to make them for the tables at my wedding!!
Thanks for sharing! I was just thinking yesterday about a black pepper chicken dish I used to get at a a neighborhood Asian restaurant when I lived in Atlanta!
BTW – I have made 3 note takers – one large, two small for Christmas presents!

Thanks for the recipe! My son loves Asian food, but we rarely get take-out due to our daughter’s allergy to nuts. He raved about this dish when I made it for dinner, and he had three helpings! This is sure to become a regular menu item.
Looks delicious! I printed it off and will try it soon! Thanks!

nice blog!
Oh – yumm. That’s one we’ll have to try!
I tried this tonight and it was wonderful. I added peas but made some notes to double next time so I have left overs, it was all gone so quickly. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
I love your blog and look here all of the time… I saw this recipe the other day and thought YUMMY! I told my hubby about it and said we should try it. We love to try new recipes together. Well our baby girl came down with her first sickness after my trip to the grocery store… she is 14 months… It was a bad couple of days but I had already bought everything before she got sick. So while I was in bed holding said sick child, my hubby made this for me. It was so delicious. We have already made it again – together this time. We have decided that it is our secret recipe… something we can make together that is easy but very PF Changs-y.
(we love their food but don’t have one close to our house) So thanks for the recipe.
And sorry for the long story. Oh and the baby girl is feeling much better now.
Thank you so much for the lovely comments! I get a lot of satisfaction in preparing and sharing good food with my family. I also enjoy sharing my finds on my blog. I love knowing that someone else enjoyed it too!
