Craft Show – Ideal Bunny

The talent of the other crafters vending at La Befana was really impressive. I thought I’d highlight some of the displays and wares over the next week

This is Ideal Bunny. If you’re in Seattle you can see her wares in person at Urban Craft Uprising on Dec 6 & 7. That is not Jane at the table but she’s just as cute. I could feed off that young creative energy all day long!

I love the handmade wooden stand she displays her tote bags on. It’s staggered so none of the bags overlap. The structure allows for grabbing the bag from the bottom for a good look at it while not disrupting the others. Pulling one off to try it on was easy too. The wide arm creates enough space between the tote handles to easily stick your arm through and pull them off at the same time to get to the one you want.

I got this one for Leil. Too cute. I almost can’t stand waiting until Christmas to give it to her.

This one was sitting there with Caitlin’s name on the tag. It practically jumped off the display by itself. The fabric on the bottom is a gorgeous textured black wool.

Someone at the show asked me why I would buy these when I could easily make them. Here’s my answer:

1. I couldn’t easily make them. They have Jane’s signature on them. A unique style with beautiful fabrics and an energy distinct to the maker.

2. I really enjoy supporting other crafters. There’s a satisfaction in buying something handmade and knowing the individual who created it. Knowing the sale helps them continue their creative journey. Knowing I’ve got a one of a kind creation.

3. I don’t have the time! It’s taken me a while but I no longer feel the urge to make everything myself. I’m overjoyed with the fact I have two gifts perfect for my daughters ready for wrapping.

I always enjoy reading your ‘stories’! You have a nice and amusing way of writing. Love the bags you bought for your daughters. And don’t daughters also like their mom to buy them things instead of making everything herself, even though they do love that too!?!

I love her bags and bag stand. I had mentioned trying to make something like this to my DH a while back. So I had to show him this picture and told him he had to make one too!

I love your answers for why you buy someone else’s handmade!

Thank you for your comments about buying handmade. I think it’s important to recognize another crafter’s “signature” and support their efforts even if you could make something similar yourself. (And really, acknowledging that you don’t have the time to take on one more thing? That’s so enlightened!)

    Happy Thanksgiving!

She does have a cute style to her bags…black wool with polka dots would be in my hands in an instant too. :o )

P.S. there was a happy squeal at my house when I saw my name in your sidebar…it is exciting to be included in someones home on the web.

Oh, bravo, Kathy. I loved the last part of your post. And thanks for giving me permission to not make everything for everyone on my list, too. I don’t like late Thanksgivings, they make me feel so rushed afterwards!

    Kathy!
Thank you so much for featuring me on your blog, how amazing! Also thank you for all of the wonderful fabrics, I have been having much fun playing with the fat quarters putting together little totes for UCU. My mom gave me the excellent indigo chicks today.
Hope you are having a fabu Thanksgiving.
    Thanks x 1,000,000
    Jane
