Shop Talk Friday – Alexander Henry, Linen + Sandi Henderson Patterns

Sandi Henderson’s much anticipated Portabellopixie Patterns arrived this week. I’m completely blown away by the quality. The patterns include an oversized 6 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ booklet with full-color pages and a full-sized pattern sheet. Sandi uses a very impressive technique of combining photographic images along with computer drawn illustration making the steps very clear to follow and understand. This is one talented gal! The multi-sized patterns contain sizes 6-12 months through girls 8.

100% natural linen. Sometimes a project just needs a little Zakka. I love using natural linen in my projects and I’m so very excited to have found a source that I’m proud to carry in the shop. It’s 60″ wide. I’m thinking about selling it in a smaller unit. Either a FQ type cut which would be 18″ x 30″ or a square measuring 18″ x 20″ or even smaller? If you have an opinion on this please leave a comment. I’ll draw 3 names on Monday for a free half yard cut of this fabulous new cloth.

Several new arrivals from Alexander Henry, this one is Starling. And yes, it’s as cute in person as it looks on the screen!

The larger fat quarter would be perfect for so many of the smaller projects. I would totally buy them :)

Great new patterns and the AH birdies are fun. I was excited to see that you added linen to your shop, you continue to make great selections that are so tempting. I’m sure some would appreciate the option of purchasing a smaller piece like 18 x 30, I tend to “justify” purchasing at least half yards of most fabrics – a character flaw that I am working on!

I think 18×30 size for this linene would be good. I love the Starling – it’s just gorgeous! Ahh the possibilities!!!

18 X 30 sounds perfect! I don’t think it needs to be cut any smaller.

I’d keep it as yardage, because the extra width is really useful for some projects, but offer the fat quarter size as well. It’s really hard to find linen at the extra width, so I think some people would buy it by the yard with no worries, and the people who just want a small amount for zakka or patchwork have the option of getting the fat quarter instead…..

    Cheers,

    Leah xx

I think I’d use some either way. I like the color, I have had trouble finding a natural colored linen. Happy Weekend.

Fat Quarters would give new customers a chance to try it before investing in so much width, I personally like that 60″ width.

I think a FQ of linen would be excellent! 18×30 would be wonderful to use for various projects. And the birdies fabric! Wow! I don’t know what I would make out of it, but I must have some just to look at in my stash.

You know, I don’t really have an opinion as to size (so does my entry count), but I’d sure love to make something for Da’Gorgeouses with that deliciously cute fabric! LOL!!

I agree that fat quarters would be nice, but the option of 60″ nice also! Looks like beautiful linen!

I think a FQish size would be very nice. the 20″ width might be too small for a lot of projects.

I would say 18 x 30. Then you could also use it for the 24 pencil roll, without having to make an extra seam. It would also be nice for a bag! By the way, I love the fabric by Alexander, Starling too! Would be really nice for a bag or a pillow cover.

I say leave it as is. There is always some use for linen fabric and it is so handy to have on hand.

18 x 30 would be great for the linen. It looks wonderful for some embroidered Christmas stockings I want to make.

The linen looks truly divine, I just love the look and feel of linen. I usually purchase a half or fulll yard amounts of a fabric and go from there with projects, never actually purchased the smaller cut sizes, I can see how they might be useful though. The Shop Talk Friday is a great addition to your wonderful blog. Hope you have a terrific weekend!

Oh, I hope that this doesn’t triple post…I’m having problems leaving comments and I would love a chance to win a piece of the new linen fabric. I was excited to see that you are carrying linen now (are there any other colors on the way?), you continue to fill your shop with such tempting items!! I’m sure that some would appreciate the option of purchasing an 18 x 30 piece, I would probably purchase at least a half yard if not a full yard. I seem to always justify the need for just a little bit more when it comes to fabric.

Add my vote for the 18″x30″ – but I can also see using a larger cut. Could you have that available for special order? I very rarely buy a true fat quarter (unless it’s in a preassembled pack of fat quarters) because it’s just not ENOUGH fabric, especially if I really love it!

For a european seamstress it is sometimes strange to work with FQs. Our fabrics are much wider.
And the linen ist quite neutral- good to use in several projects. I like the 60´´width!

I love 100% linen and all I can find locally is usually a blend. I’d also love a resource for organic linen or even a linen/cotton blend!

I think the 18″ x 30″ size would be the better size to sell….there would be a possible square amount and then some smaller amounts to use… also, the obvious whole piece would be available to use.

  42. Eve
    October 18, 2008 | 10:05 pm

I agree, 60″ would be my first pick for sure. If not, I would pick the 18 x 30. That print is beyond cute.
