Birthday Time
Sep 30th, 2008 by Kathy

I’m 46 today. I’m not sure what I think old is anymore because I still feel very young!
I’m celebrating by spending my day working on a double secret quilting project and sneaking away for lunch with my husband.
I’m also giving away this wool felt witch kit by Artgirlz. Isn’t she adorable? (I’ll apologize in advance for not stocking them in the shop. I didn’t think they’d arrive so quickly so I only ordered Christmas kits for sale.)
Play along by sharing a Halloween craft or decorating idea in the comments. Links are good! I’m in a very Halloweeny mood. Winner to be announced on Friday.
Wishing you a festive autumn day!

Happy Birthday! Today is also my son’s birthday. I sent an email, but Timtex is back! So, Happy Birthday.

Not Halloweenish, but good news nonetheless, no?
Yea!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Hope YOUR day is the BESTEST ever!!!
happy birthday!
(and, yeah, i’ve had to re-think what i’ve always thought as “old” as well.)
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the day!
Try blending 1 small can pumpkin, 1 jar marshmallow fluff, 4 oz cream cheese, a little orange zest and ~1/2 tsp cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice. Dip apples and ginger snaps in it, and you will not be sorry!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY from a long time reader (and non-commenter) who shares the same birthday.
Today I’m 38.
Happy Birthday to us! : )
Happy, happy birthday! Enjoy your day, hope your year is wonderful. I want to try the Martha Stewart treat bags that look like witches brooms this year, they look so cute and easy. I love that Artgirlz Christmas tree kit, absolutely adorable. Reminds me of a certain someone’s Christmas table runner that showed up on the cover of a magazine…
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! I’m 42, which means old is now 85.
xo!

Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday to you!!! Happy birthday to you!!! Happy birthday dear Kathy!!! Happy birthday to you!!!
Happy Birthday! I’ll be 46 on my next birthday in January. It’s a good thing!
Happy Birthday to YOU! Don’t you know that 40 is the new 50? So then if you follow that logic, you are really only 36 and I am only in my mid forties (and not my 50’s like the birth certificate claims)!
I LOVE Halloween. And I love that witch, she’d look amazing in my kitchen!
We do our house up for Halloween every year and have since our girls were small. I wish I had photos of some of our earlier houses (the ones where it took days to build the props and set up the lighting). I have a set on flickr from last year, and thought I’d send you the link to the one that shows how we made our house look like it has eyes!

I hope you enjoy your day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
I like it when people decorate their driveway with paper bag luminaries, almost inviting kids to their door to trick-or-treat by lighting the path for them in a homemade way!
Herzlichen Glückwunsch - Happy Birthday.
Enjoy YOUR day.
Warmly, Maren
Happy Birthday! Have a great day
Have a great new birthday year. You ARE young.
My favorite fall/Halloween decoration is a scarecrow doll my mom made for me years ago. She used a large Raggedy Ann pattern, but dressed the doll as a scarecrow with “hay” coming out of her hat and wrists and pantlegs. I love it and put it out as soon as the leaves start to fall through Halloween. And I always answer the door for the trick-or-treaters in a witch costume,…just like the witch in your kit that I would love to win.
Happy, happy birthday! This is not too exciting, but my kids and I love to make tissue paper ghosts! This year I got lots of different colors to make things even more fun!
Happy Birthday! Mine was yesterday. I agree with you… what exactly is “old”? Hope you have a great day!
I’m enjoying Joanna Figuerao’s beautiful autumn photos on her blog.

ravensblight.com offers many fabulous and free! printable Halloween paper toys, including masks, coffin gift boxes, board games, and a haunted house that just kills me.

Happy Birthday!
HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!! I hope you have a sunny, warm day full of joy and happiness (as well as surprises and chocolate!). My Halloween decoration was the drape glue soaked cheesecloth over balloons to make ghosts. I had so much fun and made some huge ones to hang outside in the trees. Well, living in the desert, I didn’t think about humidity. After a foggy night I got up to sticky, skinny, wet Kleenex looking ghosts hanging from the trees - yuk! The neighbors knew I was odd and that experiment just confirmed it -LOL! Don’t you just love the creativity of the Artgirlz and the witch would look so cute in my house - I promise not to hang her outside in the trees! Have a great Birthday. Cheers to you.
Happy Birthday!!!
I love to decorate my front porch with pumpkins, hay bales and stalks of corn. It makes it so festive. Sometimes we even make our own scarecrows using old clothes.
Happy Birthday! I posted some felt pumpkins that I made and they are fun and easy! I love Fall too!
Here is the post:

happy birthday from eastern washington! (washington state that is, go cougs!) for me….not so much the decorating (I have a 2 year old and he would take everything down, maybe next year) autumn for me is pumpkin pie!
Happy Birthday and I hope you are having a fantabulous day! The only Halloween decoration I have is a Jim Shore large pumpkin that I just got out of the closet last night and I have it displayed on the end table in my living room. The cute witch would look awesome standing beside it, don’t you think?
Happy, Happy Birthday! You are not old….because if you are then I am too as I’m right behind you! I still feel like I’m in my mid-30’s! Of course, having small children to keep up with only adds to that feeling!
Hope you have a fantastic day!
Carol
Happy Birthday!
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATHY!!! I hope you have a wonderful, creative day!! Can I suggest my favorite fall/Halloween treat? Candy corn mixed with Spanish peanuts (approximately one candy corn to every peanut–that is my preferred ratio). Salty, sweet. Yum.
Yes, she is cute and so are you and you are FIVE years younger than me!!! you are young, don’t question it! Halloween, not my fav. but my tip is to watch the after sales for the fun things you’ve been eyeing, but can’t break down and purchase. I know this isn’t a new tactic, but some may not have thought about it,….’cause they are still young!
You’re a spring chicken! Have a wonderful birthday.
Happy Birthday, Kathy! I love your blog - usually just lurk :>) For Halloween handouts, I like to take two good size, clear plastic bowls - one smaller than the other so the small one can nest inside the larger one. I mix a couple packages of jello up (any color) and pour it into the large bowl. Then place the smaller bowl inside so it pushes the jello up to the edge of the larger bowl - you may have to put something heavy inside the small bowl for this to work. After the jello is partially set, begin poking all kinds of creepy crawly bugs and snakes (plastic, of course) down into the partially set jello. Finish setting the jello in the frig. When completely set, fill the inner bowl with candy and have the kids pick out their treats - the little ones really like it when snakes creep over the sides! Cheers!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Happy Birthday! I’m 42 and I DO feel old… may have something to do with trying to keep up with my 4 year old
Not very creative perhaps, but my daughter’s pre-school sells pumpkins at their pumpkin patch each year to raise money… so we go over (usually SWEATING as we live in Florida - hard to get in the holiday mood when it is still 90 degrees and humid!) and buy 3 pumpkins for our “pumpkin family” - mommy, daddy, and baby pumpkins - and set them up by our front door. My daughter gets a big kick out of this.
Happy Birthday Kathy - I agree 46 is definitely not old.
Enjoy your day.
Happy Birthday. I feel same way, I turned 46 this year and it doesn’t feel old to me at all! Hope you had a great day!
Happy birthday!! Love that witch!
I love this Halloween Countdown Calendar:
http://www.frugallawstudent.com/2007/09/26/do-it-yourself-pottery-barn-halloween-countdown-calendar/
Not that I’ve even made a Christmas advent calendar yet!
Most of my bookmarked halloween crafts are for little kids.. maybe I’ll try and do some this year
I always thought that you were older than me because you know so much more. And now I find I am the one who is your senior (not by much) but still. That makes me smile! I can and will learn so very very much from you, and I hope someday I will meet you in person.
You are my inspiration!
Happy Birthday Kathy!
love, Judy
Happy Birthday, Kathy!
/like making coordinating fabric kits/.
I enjoy reading your blog, started long ago when you were making the crayon rolls. You work is so nice and I enjoy following your progress and the fact you have now a business excuse to do the thing you like
46 is a super age /as all the ages are :)/ you have experience and energy to put it to good use.
All the best!!!
Happy birthday Kathy!
I kinda miss Halloween here in Australia. But I like to have a bowl of individually wrapped sweets available for dipping into with spreading the germs.
It really is a MAJOR excuse for candy overload!
I wondered if the witch kit was a reference to being a grown-up ‘crone’ - a mature woman who has all the answers and wouldn’t WANT to be a young thing anymore! (I’m a similar age and am quite happy with being 47 thankyou, and knowing what I know now)
Have a good one!
Hartelijk gefeliciteerd! I’ll be 50 next July. I always thought I’d be real old then. However, and luckily I feel young, even though I do have some health problems.
For Halloween and autumn I used to make a lot of things from felt when my kids were young: pumpkins, mushrooms, a liitle oak and chestnut man etc. I even tought groups to make those things. For each season I would decorate a whole table with things from that season. Don’t do that anymore now my kids are 15 and 17. But the witch you made looks gorgeous! I like the way you don’t only stay with the ’soft’ materials! The combination is real nice!
Have a very very nice day!!!
Happy Birthday Kathy, hope you have a wonderful day!
(believe me, even being 58 can still make you feel young..)
Happy Birthday, Baby Girl! from an admiring 50+ year old.
I’ve always loved making bags for Halloween and now I’m running out of kidlins wanting to trick-or-treat. Either decorating a purchased cloth bag or I’ve knitted bags and felted them and decorated them to the gills….love sparkly stuff and dangly spiders.
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day. Toni
happy happy birthday!! I’ll be 42 in a couple weeks as well–don’t even mention the word old!
xoxo
(treat yourself today btw)
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Birthday Kathy!!!
Halloween is one of my favorite holiday! I just did a post on my past projects: http://blog.creativekismet.com/2008/10/01/welcome-october/
I hope your day was rich with love, peace and happiness. Cheers!
Happy birthday, Kathy! I hope you had a wonderful day.
Hey, how did I miss this??? We’re practically the same age, born in autumn and have a love of all things fabric. Of course we were destined to be friends. I hope you had a wonderful day and I wish for you a year filled with love and many successes!
Happy Birthday Kathy!
Happy Birthday Kathy!
Happy Birthday and many more! I love your blog and your patterns. I’ve used your Anna Banana table runner to make my daughter a table runner in Halloween Fabrics. It allows for a really fun and different look! I’m making lots of table runners and placemats for presents this year!
Happy Birthday Kathy! I hope you have a wonderful celebration!
Happy Birthday, Kathy!!
Halloween requires candy corn like Valentine’s Day requires conversation hearts. Absolute necessity.
My favorite Halloween memories are of my homemade costumes by Mom. Witch, princess, ballerina, poodle (blue ribbon!), skunk (blue ribbon!), and stop sign. Go, mom! When I was a starving college student going to a party, I became a spider web by wearing all black and taping on a white electrical tape web. It was a hit and got a huge laugh from a trick-or-treater’s mom I ran into on the sidewalk.
Well, Happy Birthday, Kathy! I am so happy for all your recent success. I love the little witch. I’ve been eyeing those Artgirlz kits, but haven’t bought one yet. I collect witches for Halloween and Santas for Christmas! My favorite Halloween memory as a kid was the many years in a row that my sister and I dressed as witches, thus the collection.
Happy birthday! I so enjoy your blog and cute ideas.
I’m not sure what to think old is either but I DO know I’m not there yet and I am staring 60 in the face. 46 isn’t even close. Enjoy!
Happy Birthday Kathy!!! Life gets better, even after 46!!
Happy Birthday! It only gets better
Happy, Happy, Happy 46! Double secret quilting and lunch with your favorite man sounds like a perfect way to celebrate. Women are not at their best until their 40s - enjoy your accomplishments, your family and the wonderful surprises coming your way this year! Heidi
Why, you’re just a young bunny (much like myself—-I’ll be 45 next month)! They way I see it, the 40’s are the new 20’s, easily. I’m having a blast, and I know you are too! The glass isn’t half-full—-it’s brimming over!! Enjoy your birthday!! Hugs!
Happy (belated) Birthday!!
Happy Birthday!!!! I have a tutorial on my blog for a Halloween banner. If you go to my blog and click on tutorial, you’ll find it. Very cool kit.
Happy Birthday! I love autumn and my favorite craft is simple fall leaf rubbings.
Enjoy!
Sara
Happy b-day as well!
Well, given a have a fall birthday as well, here’s my tip for autumn. One of my favorite things to do to celebrate is head over to the apple orchard near me (family owned) and purchase some apple cider. They also have these nice apple peelers that round and core an apple for you. (If you dont have one simple peel an apple, core it and slice it horizontally)
Anyhow, when you are done you end up with basically an nice thick apple slice. If you take a cake decorating gun, but fill it with caramel instead, you can create nice little apple faces that match your mood and compete for the best apple slice. I find kids love this! plus at the end, you get to eat your creations and encourage children to eat a healthy snack instead of a fatty one as well!
Happy belated birthday, I just got to this today. That witchy lady is so cute. We just started a collection of witches for my daughter last Halloween. My favorite Halloween thing to do is carving pumpkins and toasting the seeds on Halloween eve. Also, making anything pumpkin-flavored puts me in such a Fall mood. Enjoy your October!
A bit late with the Happy Birthday, but Happy Birthday anyway, I hope you had a lovely day :0)
Ooh I’ve been away and missed your birthday. Hope it was a fun one!!
