Our guidelines for this month’s Virtual Quilt Bee came from Erin at House on Hill Road. She mailed each of us a different print from Denyse Schmidt’s Flea Market Fancy collection. I received the orange fabric. The formula was:
1. Use the fabric received as the four outside center squares of a nine-patch block.
2. Use a second fabric for the four corners.
3. Use a third fabric for the center square.
Many candidates were auditioned but ultimately my hand kept pulling out coordinating Denyse Schmidt fabrics from my stash. I’ve always loved how all these fabrics combine so well, I absolutely can not wait to see Erin piece this quilt together!
You can take a look at all the blocks created over on the Flickr group.

This is just gorgeous! I really like all the blocks for this quilt!
I know that quilt is going to look great with all the Denyse Schmidt designs running through it. Your choices were perfect with the pop of yellow at the center. — Michele
What a great combination of fabric! The center block is a perfect eye-catcher and I love how you combined two of Denyse Schmidt’s collections in such a fun way.
Love the DS fabrics and the block!
It’s fun to follow this virtual quilting project!
I would of never of thought of putting those colours together – but it is amazing and looks so fresh and modern – Cheers
I love DS fabrics, too — especially the new country faire weight. I can’t wait to see how this quilt turns out. Thanks for sharing.
One day I will start a quilting group… I fantasize about it sometimes… but I’m not confident enough with my skills yet… soon though! Soon! Thanks for the inspiration!
i smile every time i see this photo. thanks so much, kathy.
What’s your secret to such perfectly fitting blocks?
Irene: I should do a simple photo tutorial of how I pieced this block. It’s not anything original but I remember when I first started how confusing the actual construction steps seemed. I do think the combination of techniques I use give me nicely joined seams.
