Just a few days late. That’s how my weeks have been going. I like to be on time. On time for the ferry. On time for airplane rides. On time for school meetings. On time for lunch with a friend. Being late does not sit well with me. This is the 8th end-of-school year rush I’ve lived through as a mother and you’d think I’d be a little better prepared for it!
I awoke early this morning and finished my block for Courtney of Two Straight Lines. She sent us 3 solids. Gosh they’re nice. A line of two thread weaves by Robert Kaufman called Carolina Chambray. They remind me of the Kaffe Fasset Shot Cottons which I’m a huge fan of. The colors are rich and deep, the texture soft and the weave tight.
The remaining fabrics were part of my vintage haul several months back.

My oldest is 17 and I’m still not prepared for the end-of-school year rush. There’s something different every year that throws me off! Love your quilt.
I know what you mean, although I don’t have the ferry to add into the equation. Fortunately mine is off on a school trip for a week next week so I’ll be able to breath a little.
Lovely, lovely block!
This is such a good block. I love how these quilts are coming together.
Great block Kathy! And thanks for the links. I finally know now what’s meant by shot cotton. I think I love it!
I love the fabrics.
Love it!! I STILL need to start my quilt. My fabric is still sitting in a nice ironed pile lol.
This is such a fun block. I love wonky Log cabins, and they are even better with a bit of extra, unexpected wonk thrown in. The umrella fabric is too cute!
Love the umbrellas! Might as well embrace the weather we’re having. FYI, there are some KF shot cottons on the fabric.com website right now- too gorgeous! no affiliation with the site… just lots of money spent there!
I’m an on-time person too and can’t stand when I get behind! We just wrapped up the end-of-the-year rush and I’m exhausted.
I’ve noticed the quirky-pieced quilts quite a bit lately and I just love them! What great fabrics too. Will we get to see the quilt in its entirety when it’s done?
Lisa: Each person in the group gets their blocks and will make a quilt. I’ll definitely post as each member does that.
What a fun block! I love the Carolina Chambrays–they have a nice weight to them. My brain has started summer break, so I’m trying to hang in there with the last few days of school.
That’s very nicely balanced – love it! Have a relaxing weekend.
I love it! I sure wish I was part of the group!
I’m a total newbie with quilting. I love how the inside pieces aren’t straight lines. Every pattern I see has precise cutting, but I love the whimsical feel of this. Would you mind sharing how you do that?
Love your work. You’re a genius.
Veronica: I wrote a tutorial on how to piece this type of seam:
