I made these goodie bags for Caitlin’s party guests. It’s the Simple Bag pattern from Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. I surfed the Flickr group before starting. Wow, so many fabulous projects there! I especially liked this one by Grey Cottage Studio, it inspired me to use bold print pairs with spicy linings.

THOSE ARE SO CUTE! I Love the red, black and white one!
What a cool mom you are! These are beautiful. Did you choose the fabrics with a specific guest in mind? Did Caitlin have input in the process?
Hope you all enjoy the party!
Hi. I love your site. I’m just getting into sewing. Learning as I go. Do you happen to know where you got that elephant fabric in the first photo? Or who makes it? Or what it’s called? It’s so cute.
These are all about the fabrics and you’ve found some great ones. I especially like the top fabrics in bags 2 and 3.
These are WONDERFUL! What fantastic and unexpected fabric combinations. Great way to make a simple tote beautiful
I love them!! My nieces are visiting next week and I’m putting together some sewing projects for them and I have the book so I think we are going to make bags!!
These are simply wonderful….so charming that I’m sure you didn’t need to fill them (much)!
the bottom one is my favourite! that bee fabric is so yummy…
I love the second one…so cute!
Adrienne: The red and black is my favorite one, it has this fabulous Alexander Henry bandana lining that really makes it pop. The fabrics on the outside are both the Alexander Henry home dec weight stuff.
Carol: yes!!! Caitlin picked out the fabrics for each of her guests based on their personalities. Some really outgoing and flamboyant and others more subdued.
Andrea: the elephant fabric came from superbuzzy, probably over a year ago now.
Jan: Well of course I had to put something in there
I added in a box of Japanese rice candies and a big tube of watermelon flavored lip gloss!
you are a super mom!!! the bags are GREAT! and so are YOU!
I love these! especially that second one – too fab!
The jangly fabric pairings just MAKE these. Note to self–less matchy-matchy; take more chances!
Love those goodie bags – no doubt they will be a huge hit at the party!
Another fabric question – what is the gray print on the third bag? I love fabric and recognize most prints, but have never seen that one.
Jenny: The selvage says “Sevenberry Made in Japan”. It’s a wonderful lightweight Japanese linen. The background looks gray in the photo but it’s actually a flax linen color with indigo threads. It’s a beautiful fabric, I definitely want to make myself a bag out of this!
Those are really nice!! I am all about the bold prints….I just never seem to do anything with them! :p
How do we get invited to the party? Just darling!
these are just beautiful
You are such a good mom….I wish I would have thought of these things when my girls were still having parties. As usual your combinations are wonderful.
Those are great, Kathy! What lucky party-goers.
Love the bags! I have that book and it looks like I’m gonna need to make some bags of my own!
Thanks for the shout-out! Your bags look great, as usual. I love the red lining on the black & white one and the pairing of the honeycomb with the pea pods. I think I might make a few more of these babies. I put a pocket inside and give them as library totes.
Happy Mother’s Day!

These are great! I was just thinking about using some of that elephant fabric in some small bags.
Great bags and I love the fabrics you used in each one. Nice colorful combinations too.
Love your fabrics. What a great party favor!
What a good mom you are! They look simply great and I’m sure the girls loved them. You’ve added another project to my to do list!
Fabrics to die for!!!! What gorgeous bags — total show-stoppers!!!
Those bags are so cool – I’m sure each of the girls loved them! I made goody bags out of tied up bandanas for my daughter’s party. Very quick and easy, I love yours though!
About how big does it measure? Beautiful work!
I would love to make one of those.
Niki: They measure 12″ x 15″. Perfect size for a magazine, a sketch book or taking an ipod on the plane
Elephants! They’re my fav. I’ve even got them permanently on my arm! I love this pattern and I will most definitely make some gifts with this… and a few for my own. I like these types of bags for carrying knitting or crochet projects in! Thx!
Love that pattern too! It’s one of my favorite totes to carry to work. What a great gift.
