Virtual Quilting Bee – April

The block I made for Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts. The blocks this month are really stunning. I’m looking forward to seeing this quilt when it’s all put together. You can see completed blocks on the Virtual Quilting Bee Flickr group.

I’ve been thinking a star too. Of course, I’m running behind but tomorrow I’m doing April and May.

Cara: this was actually a very easy block to create. I made my own pattern based on a picture I saw in a book. I’ll post more on the construction in another post but the basics (in case I don’t get to that for awhile ;) are that I cut the background square whole (3 1/2″). I then drew a sewing line on the square and stitched on the triangle (a big piece of fabric, just like paper piecing). I trimmed all the extra away after I pressed it flat. There’s no center point to match for each of the 4 blocks. I designed my pattern so the top of the triangle was about 3/8″ in from the edge. It looks like they’re points but they’re really like fake points because there was no piecing precision required.

Reminds me of my childhood ballet classes – there was always one kid going the opposite way to everyone else (usually me…)!
