Inspiration – Nature

These enchanting blooms sit beneath a large fir tree just outside my kitchen window. A delightful surprise discovering they had beauty marks.

They’re so lovely, aren’t they? I used to pick them on the way to school, for my teachers, that is when I didn’t get them confused with another pretty white flower that smells like onions.

I think my mother used to call these snowdrops.

They are called “leucojum” with a common name of spring snowflake or summer snowflake. They grow a lot taller than snowdrops but are very similar otherwise. I ordered a bunch from mzbulb.com last year and they’re beautiful all over my garden this year! They spread a lot too, so I highly recommend them.

That green looks painted on, so beautiful against the white. Oh, I wish spring would hurry to Michigan! I must find out of they can grow here.

That is a really beautiful shot!
Here in England they’re called snowdrops. They are bulbs and there are many different varieties – they bloom in late winter/early spring (they bring a smile to one’s face in the midst of our cold months.) Here in the UK they are in nearly every rural garden – often oceans of them. Here’s some info on them at a BBC site

mmm, snowdrops. they are so magical. This reminds me that I did a snowdrop and polka dot design a few years ago… I should dig that out. Thanks for the beauty.

Those flowers stopped me in my tracks. Despite growing up in the NW and being very vegetation aware, I’ve never seen them before! They are beautiful!

Beth: a friend of mine had a good theory on why I’ve never noticed the beauty marks. I can see these from my kitchen window and they look pure white from a distance. They come and go in early Spring. I don’t really get into the garden until they’re long gone which is why I’ve not seen them up close like this, Kathy
