Happy Thanksgiving
Nov 23rd, 2007 by Kathy

Hope you all had a fabulous turkey day with people you love. The girls were so helpful in the kitchen this year, I was completely blown away. Their excited company and the half-peeled potatoes are always more than enough for me. Seeing them open cans, assemble dishes, peel ALL the potatoes, making the pies and setting the table put my day over the top.
Caitlin made her first ever pecan pie, driven to it because she doesn’t like pumpkin like the rest of us! The organic, free-range turkey (please appreciate the irony of why I mention this) was served along side my childhood favorites: green bean casserole, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, deviled eggs and strawberry jello salad.
We ended the day watching Home for the Holidays with full tummies, a little cable knitting on Martha, finishing off the last of the wine (not the best combo with the previously mentioned activity) and going to bed early with smiles on our faces.
Today we’re celebrating ‘Don’t Buy Anything the Day After Thanksgiving Day’. Boy, the newspaper that arrived yesterday made it very tempting to abandon that family tradition!

We had the natural turkey along side the marshmallows and the green been casserole too. I’m wondering if you’d share the jello recipe — I think it looks delicious. And you know, since Thanksgiving is a totally American holiday, all types of foods have a place at the table.
Your table looks lovely, especially with the beautiful and rare sunshine in the background.
Cables and wine…probably not the best idea.
We don’t get the paper, so I wasn’t tempted to go out there and get trampled at all!
Happy Thanksgiving, Kathy! All the food look delicious. Enjoy the holiday!
OK, we did go up to Farmer Brown’s and cut our Christmas tree today, but we’re not buying anything else! We had some help in the kitchen this year too. They’re growing up…
Lovely looking meal. I don’t think we ever ate any of those things at our Thanksgiving dinner when I was a child (except turkey) but that’s one of the things that makes the holiday great - how different it is from family to family. [In case you wonder, baked sweet potatoes, shrimp cocktail, cranberry relish, pumpkin pie, can’t for the life of me remember what vegetables, stuffing of course, probably other stuff I forgot…] I do sort of miss it, but there’s always Christmas for feasting!
High five! And here I was, thinking I was so different for participating (not participating?) in the Buy Nothing Day.
Hope it’s warmer on your side of the mountains. Egads.
It all looks wonderful! I also stay the heck away from the insanity in the stores!!!!
What a lovely photo of your table! Chloe made her first ever apple pie all on her own and it was delicious! Isn’t great when the kids learn that kind of stuff. Buy Nothing day was wonderful here too. I got some knitting done, paid bills and cleaned my studio. It feels like I can enter the holiday season with a clean slate.
I bet the organic turkey tastes more like the turkey you ate growing up too. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your long weekend!
Such a festive table! Glad that all of you had a wonderful holiday! Great job not buying anything on Friday. I didn’t either. It was tough, though ;o) Happy weekend

Everything looks delicious. What a wonderful time spent with your children. I was one of those crazy people out shopping at 4:00 a.m. on Friday morning. Was it worth it? Only the .99 a yard flannel that I purchased at Joann’s. Other than that, not really. Sounds like your day was much more relaxing.
I love the natural light and the openness of your house! It must be lovely living there! Hope you had a great Thansgiving!
What a beautiful setting. Your photographs are always so crisp and clear and so descriptive. It’s one of the things I love about visiting here. Always a pleasure to browse. Happy holidays.
what a beautiful photograph!
