Bat-in-the-Box

Whew, it worked. It was touch and go there for awhile. Especially when my entire family gave the one-eyed balloon a thumbs down (“not scary enough Mom”). A trip to Rite-Aid, several more trips to the hardware store and a few strokes of day-glo paint and I was back in business.

I’m totally beating myself up for not taking my camera for live photos. It’s been one of those weeks (months?). Fishing line (you can sort of see it in the photo) was hooked up over a post and pulled from behind a dark curtain. Two black lights were positioned on the bat, one from the side and one from the bottom of the box. I placed a boom box in the bottom that played Bach’s Toccata and Fuge in D-Minor on a loop.

Fortunately, I did not keep all my receipts or track the amount of hours spent making a Bat-in-the-Box that was used for 5 hours on a Saturday afternoon. I did tally up the fun Leil and I had creating this together and sharing it with the school community. Truly precious.

I love it! And I’m sure you can make use of it on Halloween night to frighten the littlies as them come to the door… And what about costumes?! Any more dragon gloves appearing this year?!

THAT is awesome! Did you get to bring it home? I wish I was trick-or-treating at your house!

Johanna: I’m off the hook on making costumes. Leil is wearing Caitlin’s Jedi outfit from two years ago and Caitlin doesn’t want to dress up (boo hoo). I so wish we lived in a neighborhood that got trick or treaters. I’d be operating the box all evening! We’re one of those families that has to crash in on a nearby neighborhood for the candy.

Jen: Oh yes, we definitely brought it home. It looks great in the house, I just don’t know exactly where I’m going to store it the other 11 months out of the year.

I love it. Isn’t it sad when they don’t want to dress up any more? Mine wants to dress up and scare all the little trick-or-treaters. Not nice at all.

Faaabulaz! Who cares how much it cost! How many more years is she going to want to build pop-up bat boxes with you?
