8 Random Things
Aug 20th, 2007 by Kathy

8 random things. OK, I just couldn’t edit anymore, so 10. Thanks Amy!
- I talk to myself constantly. All good, but to myself none-the-less.
- I was awarded a gold medal for Home Economics my Junior year in High School. In addition to the actual medal, hung on a red, white and blue ribbon, I received a set of canning tools from Foley. I still use the food mill. Each and every time I use it I think back to the hooded, zippered-front, side-slanted-pockets corduroy jacket that Mrs. Scott made me set the sleeves into 3 times. Thank you Mrs. Scott. It’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten.
- Mrs. Scott still lives in Ironton, Missouri, the town I grew up in. My mom purchased my Note Taker sewing pattern for her.
- My favorite cocktail is a Manhattan straight up with Maker’s Mark. My favorite part is eating the bourbon soaked Maraschino Cherry at the end.
- I never planned to be a stay-at-home mom. Leaving a career I loved is one of the biggest ongoing personal challenges I struggle with.
- I’ve learned more from my children than I’ll ever teach them.
- My pre-kid career involved working for Arthur Andersen and PeopleSoft. Neither company exists anymore.
- I can count my best friends on one hand. I’ve been married to one for 16 years and another I’ve known since childhood. One died much too early. Two others are always close in my thoughts.
- I’m teaching myself yoga from a DVD I checked out from the library. That sort of sums me up in a nutshell.
- My favorite Disneyland rides are the Matterhorn and It’s a Small World. I like how nothing ever really changes at Disneyland.
I’m going to copy Amy and tag the last 8 people who so graciously commented on my blog. I realize I’m probably the last person to arrive at this party but in case you take longer than me to get ready, have fun: Sue, Julie, Hannah, Mandy, Katie, Weird Bunny, Carla, and Teresa.

I talk to myself too. I think it’s because I normally spend the entire day by myself without anyone to talk to. And I’m really good company.
Oh, wow, you shouldn’t have stopped working. Those companies could not make it without you. But I’m happy that you’re now making things to feed my imagination.
I talk to myself too! LOL, especially when I am trying to figure something out! LOL
My parent’s just returned from a trip to Tennesse/Kentucky and they visited where Maker’s Mark is made. I’m not sure I’ve ever thought about Maker’s Mark twice in my life until this week. Weird.
Ironton?! We used to go down there EVERY summer to camp at the Shut-Ins. We’ll go back as soon as they reopen.
Yoga from a video is about as good as my yoga on tivo.
talking to yourself is at least a talk with someone that
a) is *really* listening to you
b) is always honest with you
c) is intelligent enough to keep up with you
d) has the same kind of “strange” humor even your friends don’t understand always.
;)
I think it’s awesome that your husband is one of your best friends. That’s always a sweet thing! Oh, and I talk to myself too — especially when I’m working on something. And as my husband says, as long as you don’t argue with yourself all’s well.
Hey, I’m with you on the friend’s bit. My husband, my best friend in Chicago, um…? Yeah, so I think it’s really neat that you did decide to stay home with the kids. And before you know it, they’ll be out of the house. And as for home ec, I wish I took it beyond 8th grade. Congrats on that medal! :0)
Hmmmm….. I have a new yoga DVD. I guess I really oughta use it!
I bet I have the same yoga dvd! I hope you are using yours more than I am using mine. We have a lot in common. I also got the home ec medal and had to set a pair of sleeves in more than once. I am also from MO! You can visit me at my blog Cotton Candy http://chestnuthill-loviex3.blogspot.com/
Hi Kathy,
I’m not really surprised that you were awarded a gold medal in home economics!! It was fun to read things about you.
You’re in luck! I did this on my blog, so here’s my list at the very bottom of this post if you’d like to read it. It’s fun learning about my blog friends through these fun random lists! Click on my name, and it should take you right to my list post!
Oh, yikes! I’ll do it…but it may be a bit.
(I think I just did it or one like it not long ago, too.) I laughed at the talking to yourself. I certainly do that… but sometimes I claim I’m talking to the critters! That works, right?
O.K. , I slept on it and this morning I knew I had to have the note taker pattern. Just ordered it! Everyone in my family will be getting a note taker for Christmas I am sure.
I talk to my cat all day and he approves of everything I ask and tell him. My husband is also my best friend. We know each for more than 36 years. I love your 6th fact the most!! Your facts are not random but profound!
Very nice list. Makes me wanna hang out with you even more. I can’t believe you made a courduroy jumper with sleeves in Home Ec - that sounds so advanced!
Hi Kathy!
I just updated my blog, and I mentioned two of your tutorials. I’m going to try and pick some featured tutorials when I update. I love your stuff, and I just wanted to thank you for all the time and effort you put into helping others.
I talk to myself all the time…in public too no less! I’ve had people look at me and ask if I was talking to them…nope just a private conversation!
Hi, this is totally unrelated to this post but have you ever posted a tutorial to your pencil roll pattern you posted about a while back–because I love it and if not, were you thinking about selling a pattern for that, because I’d like to make one for my kids.
Oh, I talk to myself, and learned (prenatal) yoga from a DVD too. My Notetaker pattern arrived today, and I’m very excited! I’m wondering if I can get by without a walking foot, though…
Wow, you are so lucky to have taken home ec ( they had gotten rid of it at my school as some sort of gender sterotyping), and canning tools? Awesome. I think the talking to oneself comes from having a baby, you talk constantly to someone that won’t answer back, and then just keep doing it.
Who knew we all talked to ourselves so much! Definitely a sign of creative genius. I love Laura’s addition, I think you’re definitely on to something there. Maybe that explains why my kids talk so much.
I always enjoy reading your blog! I too am an ex PeopleSofter!!
You worked for Uncle Arthur!? I was and Anderdrone, but I worked for Andersen Consulting.
