and the winner is…

Man, that was a lot of work! I hadn’t really thought through the whole giveaway thing before doing it. Like how to put 99 names in a hat. I ended up cutting and pasting all the comments into Word, printed them out, cut them apart with a paper cutter, folded them in half, put them in a pink Esther’s bag, shook really hard and then asked that cute little girl on the far left in the back row to draw a name.

Drum roll please…

Amy. Yes, Amy. The one person who asked not to be in the drawing. Pure comic relief. You won’t be getting a pincushion Amy. I have a little something else in mind my dear friend. It’s probably a good thing she didn’t want one because you all would have just thought the fix was in. It still seems a little weird that her name came out of that bag…

OK. So Leil chose another name. Sally (#34)! After all that work I said draw two more. Daphne (#93)! and Janet (#89)! Daphne was not disqualified for being a bit unspecific about which pincushion she would in fact prefer. I’ll be having a little chat with her about that.

Thanks to everyone for playing along. So many of you gave me really thoughtful comments about the design, the colors, the patterns. EXTREMELY useful info. I genuinely appreciate the time you all took to make such specific comments.

Next time? The Random Number Generator is your best friend. Just google “random number generator,” then tell it to give you a number between 1 and 99, or however many you need. Easy peasy–and no cutting! Although there’s much less flair than there is when you actually pull the number out of the hat.

THAT is HILARIOUS! After cutting 99 names I’d say you’d need some comic relief for sure.
Ooo – I wonder if I’d still come up with Goodle Random Number Generator?!

Hee, hee. I got back late from setting up my booth for the quilt show and scrounged around for a picture, any picture! Can’t do a post without a picture. As soon as I hit publish and went to my site to look at the post I noticed that little saying on the gym wall. Very funny. Not planned, not cut and pasted in, just there. A little photographer’s treat (or I guess blogger’s treat in this case). I thought about editing the post to mention it but figured you clever friends would enjoy the corniness of discovering it yourselves.

I thought you had pasted that saying on the wall. How funny. Yeah, and I do random number generator in Excel – just ‘cuz it’s there. What fun, though. Have fun at the quilt show! Make sure you take pictures of your booth! I’d love to see them!

Oh man. I’m in trouble for being verbose again!

I first saw the above photo on Flickr and noticed yes, the sign, and Leil, looking right at you as you’re taking the photo. Very cute! So by the time I read this and unbelievably have been chosen at random, I forgot to think about the meaning in context. Love it.

Now I just want to say — because it cracks me up — “I can’t believe I won! I never win anything!” I do a random-number drawing every month at work and hear that a lot. The contradiction of it, and the total seriousness with which people say it, cheers me.

Okay so. My first favorite by impulse and without overthinking it was the rosebuds one on the right of the middle column. (Plus, it wasn’t mentioned by the other winners!) And also, I’m doing Chilly Hilly, so I’ll be over there a week from Sunday, stopping in Churchmouse and Esthers after the ride–I’ll probably be incoherent but in need of coffee if you are around and want to brave the cyclists in Winslow. And if not, I don’t need a lot of nudging to come back over.

(Hm. I think I’m extra chatty when I ride my bike to work. Apologies for the mega-comment. I should just email you but that’s hard from work.)
