The first craft blog I ever read was Hillary Lang’s Wee Wonderfuls. I came across it after googling ‘how to stuff a softie’. Her site came up number one in the rankings. I didn’t even know what a blog was so I was a little confused by the categories and flickr and how to navigate through the text. 3 hours later I knew what a craft blog was and I was totally in LOVE with her incredibly unique and creative style.
When she recently published her doll pattern for Olive & Archie I was so excited I couldn’t even stand it. I could actually attempt to make a Wee Wonderful’s doll. My WIPs went by the wayside and last weekend was spent making these two cool kids. Caitlin, Leil and I are waiting with bated breath for the next installment.
Olive spies a little green frog.

Greg bought me a tripod a couple of weeks ago. My hand tends to shake ever so slightly when taking pictures with my macro lens. I tested it out by doing a little tutorial on how I bury my knots.

these are sooooo ADORABLE!!! your workmanship is impeccable!! i can only dream of sewing like this. really beautiful work!!
perfect photos too!! love the one of Olive with apples and frog. too cute!!!
So cute!!!! I think wee wonderfuls was the first blog I found, too- and yours shortly after- I am making mine starting tomorrow- GREAT job and great photos!
You did a great job with these two. I especially love their outfits.
These are adorable! Don’t tell Hillary (if you’re reading this, um, hi, Hillary) but I think I like their outfits better than the originals. SO cute!
I came over from Flickr to say thank you VERY much for the knot-tying tutorial. An experienced quilter showed me another method on Wednesday as well but I need to get her to show me again — it involved “opening up a hole” somehow. Your method is closer to what I’ve tried to do but very helpfully broken down so I can imitate the finer points and improve my skill.
Your Olive and Archie are darling, of course! I don’t know if you caught my Bunny and Kitty from (of course) the Kitty, Bunny and Bear book. They’re so fun!
I swear everything you do is PERFECT!!! These 2 are no exception.
They are super cute! Love all the photos.
Too adorable! I think your versions of Ollie and Archie are great .. gorgeous fabric combos. (I’m actually just finishing up one of the bunnies from Wee Wonderful’s pattern booklet. It’s been cut out since it first arrived.) I’m always impressed by how many projects you get done.
And the pictures for the bury-the-knot tutorial are fantastic!! If only I could take photos that good … I need more practice.
These turned sooo sweet. I love the fabric choice. You pictures are great !!! And thank you for the tutorial on how to hide your knots. I did not know how to do that. Clarice
They really are wonderful. You have made them so well.
The dolls are amazing, I love the colors you chose! I have not touched my little pattern yet…
Well something quite wonderful happened to me after reading your post! I learned that I had NEVER read or learned the working of our new digital camera. Who knew it had an actual flash? What an idiot I feel like. I went looking for the “macro” setting to see if I had one and realized this book was discussing the ?flash? popping up?? 8 months and I never saw the flash button marked “open”?
Anyway, love the tutorial. I also hate knots on top and struggle to bury them even if it takes some strong-arming. LOVE Olive and Archie! The faces are just precious and the outfits to die for! As always I come to look and end up so inspired!
Also thanks a million! I feel so honored to be listed on your Blogroll! I’m off to read the camera book and see what else I can do!
olive and archie look so cute! i*luv archie’s spotted shirt especially- very retro ;0)
Oh my-the are the sweetest kidliboo’s Ive ever seen! Luv your choice of fabrics!
these are just too darn cute – I need to hide this post from my children or I have to make some for them and I know they would turn out to be NOTHING like yours! lol.. Love the picture of Olive and the frog..
I love your blog – lots of interesting projects. I just read your archives and wonder if it is possible for you to post, or send me the instructions for the portfolio you made for your Mom (the one with the big bright yellow flowers on the front). -Rosaline
They are sooooo cute! They make me want to attempt a softie again, although their faces require some embroidery, huh? If I had the skill, this would make a jump to the top of my list as well.
These are so cute, Kathy. Love the expressions on their faces. You can tell they’re from WA…all them apples.
Aww… Ollie and Archie look so adorable… I also love your tutorial on how to bury knots! Thanks so much for that. And the photos look great!
Ollie and Archie are really sweet. The colors, everything! And I love your quilts!!! You’re so talented.
great job!!
Kathy, what kind of fabric have you used for the skin? I think you said linen, and if so, what kind of linen. I think yours look better than any others I have seen and the thing I like the best is the skin fabric. It looks so much more polished than the flannel versions, at least in the pictures they look so perfect. Perhaps that is your sewing skills though??? obviously your skills far exceed my own so that will be a given but i just thought if I want to get close to your version I’d better start with the right fabric!
Hi!!!
God! you have wonderful hands. I didn’t knew you blog … you have beautiful works.
the patchwork is beautiful, this boy and girs sooo cute…
I loved it…
