Margret Darrah of Mad Dog Quilts taught me how to make this basket. It’s a fun twist on the lavender wand. I made another one last night and took photos as I went along. I was going to link to instructions on the web but couldn’t find a single site that demonstrated how to make these. So you’re seeing it here first (I think, I didn’t look at all 12,465 hits on the search page.) Here’s a photo heavy tutorial of the steps.

I found out yesterday that I won one of the prizes in the latest Whip Lash challenge. Yippee. The theme this time was Bags in three different categories: skill, fancy, tutorial. Really amazing creations so go check them out.
I think what struck me this go around is how Kathreen’s challenges are pulling together the crafting blog community in a very unique way. I realize the whole point of Whip Up is a community concept but up until the challenges it was lacking any consistent interaction between all of us that enjoy the blog. During the challenge, I find myself visiting the entrants blogs (ones I didn’t even know existed) and making comments. I enjoy seeing how others interpreted the theme. It’s a very cool expansion of the blog circle. A fun way to participate in a group activity (sometimes blogging gets a bit self-indulgent, wouldn’t you agree). A good way for new blogs to get discovered. Way to go Kathreen!

Hello Kathy, congratulations on being picked for whip lash challenge !!! Your water bottle tutorial deserved it. I love the lavender basket. !!!
Thank you Clarice
Way to go Kathy! Congrats on your water bottle winnings. And very well said regarding the whiplash challenges. I feel the same way. It’s not so much about the prizes or “fame,” but about sharing our inspirations and creative energy. I love seeing what other people are doing. Especially since I move a lot and don’t often get the chance to choose my friends, I like to connect with like-minded people via the internet. Cheers!
Congratulations! I would hav ebeen completely surprised had you not won for your tutorial. It was a great idea. The lavender basket is so beautiful and I could see it working well for a flower girl to carry in a wedding. Oh, and I meant to tell you last post that I really like that wooden cross above your daughter’s bed.
Congrats, on the waterbottle tote.
Thanks, for the instructions on the lavender baskets- too neat. What a nice site you have, Crystal
The basket is so pretty – definitely you.
Congratulations on your win!
You’re making me wish I had access to fresh lavender to try some of these ideas! I just don’t think it’d look as good with the weeds in my yard…
Congrats – I was pretty sure you´d be picked for your tutorial, I really enjoyed it!
And here is yet another great thing you posted, I´m afraid my lavender is already too far along for this though but it is still fine for your wonderful lavender wands which I finally sat down to try out this morning – thank you so much for your inspiration!
As for whiplash, I feel the exact same way, I´ve been visiting there for some time and feel it´s becoming more and more “real” with the challenges. I love to see what everyone comes up with, it gives me brand new perspectives on things every time I visit. Love the creative flow there!
way to go you! i thought your h2o bottle tutorial was fab-u-lous!
Great tutorial for that lovely basket and well done on the whip up.
you rock. i am totally entering this next whiplash, emboldened by your success!
this is stunning! i love it!
Hi.. loved the look of these little baskets, however as a lavender lover and wand/basket maker, I see a problem. The whole theory of lavender wands and baskets revolves around the problem that presents when the dry lavender buds fall off… therefore, wands and baskets are built around the buds to enclose them. This lovely basket will, I fear, lose it’s buds as it dries…. however that dosen’t mean I won’t try it out!
thanks for the new idea.
I really treasure your piece of work, Great post.
