I discovered the world of fonts two years ago when I planned a Survivor birthday party for Caitlin. I was looking through the Word fonts trying to find something to use on the invitations. Not finding anything appropriate I turned to a Google search. I was totally excited to find a font called Survivant. It was the exact font used to create all the Survivor text. That was my introduction to the world of free fonts. I soon realized that the scrapbooking world has a whole host of beautiful fonts. Some free, some you buy. My favorite site to look at is Two Peas in a Bucket.
I also use my custom fonts and Word to help design the text for embroidery projects. Above is an example of how I did the monogram for my Back Tack III Kitty’s scarf. I printed out a page of T’s that I liked in a size that I liked. If the fabric is translucent enough I will trace the text onto my project. When it’s not, I practice the text freehand until it’s close and then use my steam away marking pen on my fabric. I steam away until I get it looking the way I want.

Uh-oh – that site looks like it could suck away a bunch of my time, and I’m not even a scrapbooker!
What an original idea for getting embroidery fonts! I’m assuming you machine embroidered? Or did you do that by hand? The little scarf has a nice finished look with the “T” on it. I continue to be amazed at how you can turn the simplest things into a beautiful picture.
Oh yes, I forgot to your banner looks great! That is my favorite quilt of yours. Just beautiful.
Such a gorgeous t. Thanks for sharing this idea.
I hand embroidered the letter. I used a backstitch around the outline and filled in with french knots. My two favorite stitches. Tami gave me the idea to use my quilt as the banner background in one of the banners she made for me. Now that I know how to do this I might be a little dangerous.
i actually did not finish a started blog because i could not figure out how to make it look nice and it would just take too much time to learn it! not quitting but just being realistic, and it gives me more time to look at all the lovely sites like yours!
thanks for all the wonderful pictures, especially the jam making-love it!
That is lovely. I have tried this twice, and mine never turn out. I guess practice makes perfect.
french knots are my favorite, too! so much texture with so little effort. thanks for your comment on my holiday post- i appreciate the vote of confidence!
oh, and two peas in a bucket is also an addiction of mine, for scrapbooking mostly. are we twins separated at birth, or what?
Love the embroidered letter! What a piece of art!
Thanks for this tip. Your letter is nice.
