Aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhh!

I cleaned up my potty mouth when Caitlin was born. Now I just make all these ridiculous sounds that are really more noises than words. The title of this post is not the sound I made when I knocked my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens onto the floor of my sewing room. I said a lot worse. Fortunately the kids were at school. I’m not sure what’s wrong but the focus ring no longer works. I can see little teeny, tiny screws that are just begging to be undone. I can also see the whole thing falling into a million pieces if I take them out.

This is a round about way of explaining why my pictures are just a tad dark or washed out because I’ve had to use the flash. My broken lens gives me that little bit of extra light that I need when taking pictures in my sewing room.

Caitlin has a band concert this evening. I made this black skirt for her yesterday. I don’t even know why I waited till the day before the concert to think about what she needed to wear but I did. The pattern is the Iris Skirt by La Fred. It’s one I had on hand that had all the sizes printed on the pattern. I did a quick trip to Esther’s for the black Kona cotton. Before I begin a garment I always think it’s going to be easy. I’m not sure why I think that because it never is. This simple little skirt was no exception. Warning: invisible zipper instructions do not work with a regular coil zipper. I didn’t think about this until after I had perfectly sewn in it only to have the pull get stuck in the fabric. Out it came and back in it went with a different technique. Add 2 hours. Other than that I found the design to be refreshingly different from mass-market patterns. Sometimes I had to re-read the instructions but it was fun to make. I really like the unique front pocket design. I also like the narrow waistband. Both work to hide the mature woman’s tummy. I’d buy any pattern that made that claim. Of course, now that it’s been cut into a Size 6 I doubt I could even get it over my thighs.

The sweater was a snap. I cut the sleeves off, hemmed them on the machine and ironed it. Easily under 30 minutes. Good thing. The concert is 6 hours away.

Oh dear – I hope your lens is easily fixable. That is a nice one. Your skirt is wonderful too. I could never do it under such pressure!
